How long have you wanted a porsche for?
I was just wondering how long everyone here wanted a Porsche before they finally bought one...the first time I drove a porsche I was a kid about 18 it was an early 911S the car was awesome....one of my old bosses also bought a new 911SC back in 78 he was contemplating between a 308 Ferrari and the 911 he picked the 911 and all he did was praise the car. I have waited 24 long years before I finally bought my first 911. What an awesome car I take my hats off to the germans...whats my next car gonna be...a newer 911 of course.

I have been a Porsche LOVER ever since I can remember (about 5yrs old) and my goal was to have one by the time I was 19. In October of 2000 I purchased a beautiful '78 911SC in great shape for a great price. It was a gift from the heavens, all I could do was drive around and see what the car could do.
I was 18 then (turned 19 on Jan. 5). Four days later I was coming around a corner "seeing what the car could do" and I crashed it. (That 75/25 rear weight bias got me GOOD) I had no insurance (stupidest mistake I have ever made) and the cops were across the street. Needless to say, I crided for 3 days (I'm really not joking). Well that was the story of "my first". If any of you feel bad for me and want to do something, send money/parts etc. to..... ![]() Adam Roseneck ------------------ atr911@hotmail.com |

My first up-close and personal exposure to them was in 7th grade. I was 16 yrs old. (no, I'm kidding - more like twelve) A friend of mine's Dad had a 1980 911SC Weissach. It was platinum metallic with doric grey interior and had gold 3-piece BBS wheels. That's what really made me a Porsche-kid. After that, another friend's father had a white Carrera Targa ('84 or '85) He later sold it and bought a '87 Turbo-look cabriolet (guards red with tan). He still has it and I'd love to eventually buy it from him for nostalgic reasons (and cool widebody cab reasons, too). We had some good times in that car. I had better times in my friend's '86 928S when we were in high school. I was not 16 for long before I saw 140mph in that car. Still alive, thank goodness.
I guess my answer is.......15 years. ------------------ Aubrey Parker '79 SC (silver/cork) |

Since the age of 7 or 8. Thought it was unattainable though. At 17 a guy took me for a ride in his 1976 Carrera 3.0. That did it!
I wanted a Porsche no matter what.... |

21 years ago, I had just started with G.E. A customer asked me what my goals were in life, I jokingly said, I want a Porsche. Be careful what you wish for!

And be precise in what you wish for. I didn't mention a "turbo". Probably have to wait another 21 yrs now.

One of the few things I remember when I was 3 or 4 was riding in my dads 911. He had a 356C and then one of the first 911's. Because of us kids, he did'nt hold on to them long. He still had all the Porsche memorabilia around the house, so needless to say, I was brainwashed at an early age. When I first got mine, I did'nt feel like I even owned it. Impossible, me? I still get that feeling everytime I look at it. Incredible!!

I think it was around '79 or '80. Can't remember the name of the movie but Susan Dey was in it and she was naked. That I remember. Anyway, it had a gold 928 in it. I've loved those ever since. I've got a 911 because to me that IS Porsche. I still want a 928 though.

i first fully realized what a Porsche was when i saw "Cannonball Run". Burt Reynolds took a brownish 911 over a hill and smashed it into the woods. i also liked the looks of the cars he was working on in the garage in that movie.
when i was 8 years old, i had a blue matchbox 924. i never forgot that i wanted that car. i liked everything about it. i said to myself "someday i will have this car..." well, 1 year after graduating from college what did i buy? a blue 924 ![]() obin |

I was about 12 when I fell in love with the 911. When I was 20 I bought the only Porsche I could afford, a 74' 914 with the 1.8 motor. Bright orange! I loved that car except for the pain in the ass vapor lock problem (until I fixed that!) Now, 24 years later I got my first 911...Boy, it took along time!

I liked them from day one, with the advertisements in Scientific American and other magazines in the fall of 1964, but the decision to buy one, someday, was made in June 1966, when I had a two-week vacation walking all over the San Francisco penninsula while my dad was attending an engineering conference. I saw several in Belmont, Palo Alto, and South San Francisco, and my mind was made up, later focused on the 'S' when the January 1967 issue of Car and Driver came out with the test of the '67 911S! I finally got my car in December 1977, which was 11.5 years after 'the decision' was made!

Both of my parents used to race with the POC back in the mid-60s. That was my first exposure to Porsches (1967) and I've wanted one ever since. We've always had them in the family, but I didn't get my own 911 until 1998. This car is definitely a part of me. I do plan on getting another 911, however, but I will always keep this one.
Now, my 6-year old daughter is in love w/ Porsches. She knows most of the models -> 911, 993, 996, Boxster & the "Porsche Beetle" (356). Well, I guess she needs some work on the 356. Get this, one of her favorite movies is LeMans! Nah, I didn't have any type of influence on her, did I? Rich '86 Carrera |

Well, I guess I'm quite lucky then...
I researched them for about a month, and it took me about 3 weeks to get one after the initial decision. Ofcourse my close friend/neighbor having one for sale didn't hurt anything. (he was the second owner, and had it for around 6-7 years)... It seems at this point like I'm going to strip that car of creature comforts, (such as ac, ps, most interior panels, etc.) sort of like an extreme club sport, and keep racing/driving it. When I was seven, I got a 1/24th scale schuco 911s rally car for Christmas. It had an electric motor, working steering, and a working horn. I had asked for it all year, and I thought it was the coolest. That was twenty eight years ago, and I still have it. Since then, I have always wanted a real one, and I got my wish in August of 1997; a 1978 91SC. I feel like a seven year old again. I hope to keep this one for a while too.

For as long as I can remember! I really became interested when my parents were looking at cars in 1981. They ended up with a Chevy Citation, but I wanted the 911SC. Its funny because My first car in 1986 was that 81 Citation. Then I made some goals when I was a senior in High School. The goals were to all be reached by the age of 30. The last one that I acheived was to own a Porsche 911. I bought an 81 911SC 5 months before I turned 30. The car is everything I thought it would be, and I plan on getting a 93 RS America or a 993 before the age of 40!

Like most of you guys I have wanted a Porsche for as long as I can remember.
My aunt bought me a 1:18 red 911 Turbo when I was 6 or 7. It was the first of many Porsche toys and models. I bought a 924S as a 30th birthday present to myself. I finaly sold the 924S last year after 7 years of fun, but only after I'd bought my 911 3.2 Carrera (Red - of course). Waiting so long for something can often end in an anti climax. As you all know Porsche ownership is worth the wait! ------------------ Alan Brown 86 Carrera 3.2 |
