"you might have to pull it out a little"

Am I the only person who has to say that to the gas attendant every time the pump clicks off a second after they walk away? It's getting real annoying after 4 years of ownership, is the bend in the fill tube on my car too acute? Please no puns, just give me a straight answer, do you guys deal with this too?

You LET an attendant pump your gas?!!!!!

j/k--I know in NJ you must let them.

And yes, it's a pain.

I almost always have to get it just right to have the lever stay "on".

wasn't the topic I expected you would be discussing with that title ...

but ...YES
When filling (gas in tank) i also have to "pull out a little"
or go slow.

funny how many things are constant in life

I've been struggling with the same technique since I bought the car in April. I just saw a picture of someone filling with the gas pump nozzle upside down. I'm hoping this will work better for the next fill up...

Since I got the car I have always done it backwards/upside down. Works the best for me.

What Jim says is absolutely correct. To fill at least a mid-year 911 gas tank you need to turn the handle (the part you squeeze to turn it on) 180 degrees away from you, and then it'll work fine.

And in the case of mine, with no catch tank or emissions equipment, you need to stop the instant it automatically shuts off, or there are two gallons on the ground.

Why am I a putative greenie and I drive this superfund-site carbureted lightweight car?

Do you take Metro North much? I ride the Subway to work and think nothing of having high-overlap cams.

I'm also in NJ, where I am not allowed to pump my own gas. I usually get out of the car to observe the attendant. They always want to top it off and I have to watch like a hawk tell them NOT to do it...

I never let the attendant put gas in my gas. I simply had him my card, then I remove my cap, which I place atop the pump, then grab the hose and nozzle and insert it, upside down of course. I learned early on to NOT top off the tank when the pump clicks off.

We haven't seen attendants in decades. Does Oregon still make you let the attendant fill the tank? What does this do to the price of gas. Well, we are paying an average of $3 now.

Oregon still did when I moved out of there. Don't make fun of the attendents; they are trained safety experts who can handle any situation thrown their way. I know, I've seen "The Jerk" a hundred times to learn their methods . . .

Kid asked his dad if he could have a new bike.

Father said, "Absolutely not, we have a$500,000 mortgage that I have to pay!"

The next morning, the father saw his son going out the front door with his packed suitcase.

"Where are you going?" Dad asked.

Son said, "Last night I walked past your bedroom door and heard you say, 'I'm pullin' out!' And Mom said, 'Wait for me, I'm comin' too!' So there's no way I'm hanging around to take care of your half-million-dollar mortgage if you're both gone."

No problems here...

Mine has a wire in the filler neck that prevents the nozzle from going in too far. I can always fill at full speed with no problems. Not sure if it's an aftermarket add on or what, but it's been there since I got the car. See pic:
