Radio Noise suppressor?
I am putting a new Voltage Regulator on my 81 911SC (kind that is on the left side of the engine bay, not internal). I removed the old one and it is attached to another very small (1" X 1" X 1") box. This box in turn goes out to the connection that leads back to the alternator. I can only assume from pictures in the Haynes manual that this box is a Radio Noise Suppressor. Is this in fact a RNS? If so, is is something I have to use? I inspected it and it is very old, and the connections are not very good. I did an OHM test on it, and two of the connections are ok, but the D- is reading around 33ohm. Is this right?
Thanks in advance, Paul ------------------ |

Anyone? Help? After replacing the regulator last night, it seemed to help with the pulsating dash lights a little. It also gave me a very constant 13.5 V at the battery. However, I am still getting a little of the pulsating of the dash lights.

Not sure if it's the same as on my 71, but when I upgraded to the Perma-tune Coil-less ignition, they said pull the noise surpressors out. They are there only because the Bosch CD box's internal capacitors induce noise into the system. So, in short, probably not really necessary. I had dodgy dash lights before the new alternator/regulator . I went with a newer model from Valeo that integrates both functions in one unit. This set up means that there's basically nothing left on the relay board except for--the relays. Good luck. Owen Thunes 71 911, 914 |
