Aftermarket fuel tank = CIS?
There's an aftermarket fuel tank available for sale in my area.
I have a '72 with a 73.5 CIS motor in it, I would like to get a tank with a "swirl chamber", which would be more appropriate for my CIS motor; gas swooshing around in the '72 tank starves the fuel pump with anything less than about 1/2 a tank. Anybody have experience with the aftermarket fuel tanks out there? Can I identify if this tank for sale has a 'swirl chamber' by just removing the plug and checking it out? TIA!! ![]()

My guess would be if it's an aftermarket tank, it would have the swirl chamber as there would be a very limited market for early tanks and the manufacturer would have a difficult time making a profit. Do you have any information on the year of car the tank is made for?
Regardless, you should be able to see the chamber either through the fuel level sender opening, or you could remove the plug at the bottom center (it should not be at the rear of the tank by the fuel inlet/outlets.) I believe if the plug is in the center bottom of the tank, that indicates a swirl chamber, and removing the plug will reveal a screen filter--that's the give-away.
