You should be able to remove the pump entirely, then fabricate a sheet metal cover to keep dirt, etc. away from the end of the cam.
And, what year is your car? A '70 or '71 will be easy to adapt to your 901. The number you gave doesn't identify the trans. ... it is just a casting number! On the bottom rib of the transaxle are two sets of numbers ... one is of the form 901/xx, where the xx is the 'type number' of the transaxle, and can be cross-referenced by the spec. book. The other number, close by the type number will be the seven-digit serial number of the transaxle and will start with '5' for a four-cylinder application, or a '7' for a six-cylinder application. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 01-24-2001).] |

Raynard,
No problem with your English. The CDI-units from '69 thru '77 are all compatible and point-triggered, so it will work fine with the 2.7 distributor. The Voltage regulator may have to be changed to a later model compatible with the '77 alternator. The clutch for the '77 is very similar to your '71 model ... both are actuated by 'pulling' on the pressure plate and may be completely compatible. Or you might have to put a '71 throwout bearing onto the '77 pressure plate if there are dimensional changes between the two bearings because of the diffrerences in the forks that engage them. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 01-24-2001).] |

Raynald,
I always forget when they went to the power brakes, but it doesn't matter, because the caliper piston diameters are the same on ALL OF THEM! A 48 mm piston is used on all 'M', 'S', 'A', and Carrera 'A' calipers. So, you can interchange any of those calipers freely without any worries at all! Yes, your old muffler and heat exchangers will work fine! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

No, Marcello, it isn't easy at all! There is a lot of cutting and fabrication, and bracing that would have to be done up in the luggage compartment. There was a lot of change done to the sheet metal in the trunk and wiring and hoses had to be re-routed.
