dodged a bullet?

I come here and peruse everyday but I'm not an expert so don't post to often but I had to share this. I have had my car for a little over a year. Finally took it in for a tune up. I know. I know. I should do it myself and really want to but the other parts of life gets in the way. My kid just turned one. Work. Other recreational activities ( avid diver... I hope that's allowed ).

Anyway. Turns out I've been driving around with a broken intake valve spring. The ends of the pieces have little polished spots so its been like that for awhile. I thought I would have heard noise. Anyway my mechanic said I should notice a definite difference and boy was he right. Got a couple of little oil line leaks fixed and now the garage floor is dry. I think I'll go for a little drive this weekend. Rain or not.

Just had to finally talk.

Nothing wrong at all about taking the P-car to a mechanic. A good thing about this boards is that it's made up of all types. Another, is that even if you don't do your own work, knowledge and advice gained here helps you in your dealings with your mechanic. You're less likely to get ripped off, and you'll be better able to communicate problems.

Amen to that. As a complete idiot (mechanically speaking), I saved close to $10,000 by airing my laundry here. These guys rule!!!!!

It is quite unusual, to say the least, for me to pay someone else to work on one of my cars. Mostly because I LOVE them and LOVE to work on them. but also because I am not very trusting in this department.

Having said that, in a recent post I stated that there are mechanics out there whose services are WELL worth the money. they are WAY better, quicker that I am and they even know stuff I don't know. Unfortunately, these magician/mechanics are hard to find, indeed, and they are very busy.

No, there is nothing whatsoever wrong with taking your car to a qualified, honest mechanic.
