Heat Exchanger Advice Needed
I am looking to backdate the heat exchangers/exhaust on my 3.0 Carrera. I understand that SSI's are the preferred quality/long term option, but will early original or Dansk heat exchangers yield the same performance gain as SSI's?
I have measured the header i.d at the head flange to be 33mm on both the originals and a set of Dansk's - is this the same on SSI's or are they larger? Rob |

SSIs are equal length headers, and will net a greater gain than factory style Dansk exchangers. There is TONS of info on this if you do a search. SSIs are a great addition to a 3.0.

On a 3.0 w stock cams it is a good improvement if you already own the parts. You will need to back date the oil lines to. You will not see any signifficant advantage changing the Dansk pre 75 HE's for SSI's.

From my search on the topic; Ii got the impression that the SSI's were a copy of the early pre 75 hE's which were also equal length. What I was unable to determine was if the SSI's used a lager ID tubing Than the originals?

The <'75 stock HE's were close to = length, but SSI improved it. The only difference between any SSI is the flange to port. AFAIK, all stock <75 are thin flange. What you need exactly, I don't know. Seems like it might be the thin flange when you say "3.0 Carrera." SSI makes both.
SSI's are 1 1/2 inch tubing, so that should be 38mm OD. Again, sounds like pretty much the same. Whether you will see significant improvement given the similarities is questionable depending on other performance mods. |
