Horn Relay on a '69?

Does anyone know if the '69 had a horn relay? My horns work directly off the battery, but not installed on the car. The fuse looks good.

Yes, the 69 has a horn relay. It is a round relay (probably the only one) located against the fender well, next to the fuse block in the trunk.

thank you! Got any pics of your 69? Mine used to be Burgundy too until it was repainted silver in 1974. I'm considering going back to original, but it would be a huge project.

Sorry, the car was repainted by a PO and since it's apart for resto (whenever that happens), I have no pics. Lots of pics of burgundy 911/912 on Samba and some on the for sale page here, too.

Thanks . do you happen to know if that relay is connected to the headlights? I swapped out my sugar scoops for H1s with 50w bulbs. I didn't add a relay cause I thought you only need to do that with the H4s. Do you think I that change may be over powering the relay?

No stock headlight relay on the 69. Relay kits are added to save the switch on the stalk and dash. H4's will tax the system a bit more than stock, depending on what wattage bulbs you use. If you use you lights sparingly, you'll probably have no problems with your switches, but to guarantee longevity of 40 year old components, a relay kit would be the call.

Pelican only has a relay kit for '74 or later. Anyone know of one for a '69?

I have only heard of the later kits, and some have adapted them to early cars--posted on the tech forum--and it doesn't seem too difficult, mainly finding location and adding lengths of wire between the relay kit and fuse block.
