The early 84 to 87 Carrera uses the same 915 tanny as the SC. The 88 -89 used the g50 tranny. The G50 is supposed to be smoother and since it does not use a cable clutch the clutch does not need adjusting. It is a difficult swap and expensive. You would need to use a special short bell housing version called a G50/50. I suggest you see the patrick motorsports website for info and pricing http://www.patrickmotorsports.com/main.html

I've also heard that it's possible to fit a G50 without the expensive replacement bell housing -- by cutting out the torsion tubes altogether and switching to a coil-over suspension. If you're turning your 911 into a track-purpose car, this might make it worthwhile.

Rafael,
I have to question whether a G50 is worth a $5-6,000 conversion cost ... they do seem to have their own, new set of problems, and a 915 could be rebuilt to custom specs for a lot less than that, from Andial! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
