911 Passenger Seat Rattling Noise

Dear Porsche 911 Technical Forum

I have a 2000 911 which has this irritating rattling noise coming from the front passenger seat.

It makes the noise when you hit rough patches of road and I can easily recreate the problem when I hit the right passenger seat back with the side of my fist.

I recorded the sound but unfortunately there is no way to upload it along with this post but I can email it to you

Any guidance from the forum to help identify and resolve the issue would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Al

Al,

Mine's a 77, but I had a bad rattle and all it took was lubing the seat rails and running the seat back and forth to spread it around.

Hey Rutager,

Thanks for replying to my post. Let me try your suggestion. What's the best way to lube the seat rails?

I put the seat at the full back and smeared on some Vaseline as far as I could get and then pushed it fully forward and did the same to the back section, then I slid the seat back and forth, did the trick on mine, hopefully it will solve your problem as well.

911 Passenger Seat Rattling Noise

Sadly lubricating the seat rails did not work. The problem is in the seat itself. The easiest way for me to replicate the noise is to simply strike the seat back lightly with the palm of my hand, and you can hear the rattle from under the seat.

Anyone here know how to fix this issue besides buying a new passenger seat?

Many thanks

Al

Are they power seats? You don't happen to have a fire extinguisher mounted to the seat in question? Took me 7 months to track down a cabin rattle. Turned out it was that.

How about you raise the seat as high as it can be stick you head down there with a flashlight and look for something loose. Bump the seat while you are down there. -J

Yes they are power seats. No, there is no fire extinguisher mounted to the seat in question. I can actually feel the part that is rattling by holding it with one hand and using the other hand to lightly strike the seat back.

Yup I've done that. There is what looks like a hinge that holds the seat to the seat rail has a little bit of play that is causing the rattle. I'm hoping that someone in the forum has encountered the same problem, or knows about the Porsche seat enough to recommend a solution.

Many thanks

Al
