New muffler, Dual Outlet on 911 sc.. need help!
Hi,
I just bought a new Signle Inlet Dual outlet St. muffler for my 911 sc ( 81 ) The only thing is for the exit on the left side ( seen from front of car there is no hole where the exit can go true. This means i need to cut in my 911 ( the horror ). Is there anyone with pictures or experience in this? It would be verry appriciated! I am going to wait installing it so i can use ure advice! Many people have expressed the same concerns you have! The least painful solution seems to be to buy a used valence, cut smaller hole than is needed in the used part & fold/bend the metal carefully to attempt the same contour as the factory exhaust outlet, then paint the used/modified valence to match your car, and store your original valence away in a safe place. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

When I did that I bought a junkyard valance to preseve the original one (that was 10 yrs ago and its been collecting dust since). All you need to do is cut a few inches off of the end. Its much easier to cut after removal from the car(just a few bolts to undo). The spat won't exactly match the drivers side one but no one will notice.

I just did the job a couple of days ago, on my '83SC. I must admit I wasn't as concerned about profaning the precious sheetmetal--it's not like it's a matching-numbers deal, forgodsakes--but certainly you can do what other respondents have suggested, get a spare one from a junkyard. Doing the job is supersimple: I literally did it by eye, drew a Magic Marker line at the point where the cut was needed, to exactly mirror-image the existing cutout on the left side of the car, and made the cut with a small cutoff wheel in a die grinder. Didn't even remove the valence from the bumper, since it was easy to control the wheel. Reprimed and resprayed the are of the fresh metal and the job was done in an hour. (Used my model-making Paasche airbrush with a cupful of Glasurit, which worked fine...)
