2.0 L upgrade in Andersons Book?

Bruce Anderson briefly refers to a 2.0 L upgrade in his book which uses 89mm Mahle pistons and Cylinders w/ the 66mm stroke which yields around 2500cc's. Does any one have any opinions on this combination? Any experience or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

CM,

For a carbureted engine, it should be an excellent upgrade, assuming you have a need to tear the engine all the way down. The crankcase halves and the heads have to be bored out for the larger cylinders.

It is, of course, very similar to the 88 mm EMPI Mahle Biral kit that was available in '68 from the famous Riverside CA VW hotroder's supply company!
