New to Forum will need help.
Just bought a 1975 911. Needs some work but seems to run fine. Shifting into third is tricky, fender well oil sump has small leak, needs interior. Posted some pictures. Have always been a bug guy in the past.

Welcome to the forum. You will find it helpful to put in your location with your user name for a number of reasons...recommendations for a shop nearby; other Pelicans in area etc.
I take it, when you say fender well oil sump you must be referring to the oil tank?? (These are dry sump engines with the oil tank inside the engine bay above the right rear wheel). As you may know, the 75's had certain issues and you might want to establish a good baseline of what you have (service-wise) and what it might need.

Tony, it is the oil reservoir in the fender well. It has been upgraded to the new oil tensioner system, and has a pop off valve. I need to get a book to get more familiar with the car. One thing that has me baffled is the workings of the fuel injection system and the ignition system.

Welcome!
Tell us what you know about the car... what did the pre-purchase inspection reveal? - what major service records did you inherit? - was it a Calif. car or a "49 state version"? Also, just plugging "1975" into the search box (light blue box "Search this Forum" on RH side at top of the main bbs page) should keep you busy for a while. If that is not enuff, try this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/189572-long-term-commonly-neglected-maintenance-post2955054.html#post2955054 However, the VERY FIRST thing you should do is to flush out all the old brake fluid, replace all the rubber brake hoses with new rubber ones & then refill with a high quality brake fluid (Motul or Ate, etc.) and bleed. Next, check the date codes on the tires - if older than 5 years, discard. Then, change the trans fluid (use new Swepco 201) and change the oil and air filters and the engine oil (use Brad Penn). Enjoy. Last edited by RWebb; 06-21-2009 at 06:20 PM.. |

All good advice from RWebb. You might have a look through the Tech Articles section. Have a look in the column above the link for the this 911 BBS. Lots of good info in there.
