1976 Porsche 911S Smokeing From The Oil Tank and Exhast.

The Car Has Smoke Comming Out Of The Oil Tank Breather Filter and The Exhast. More Out Of The Oil Tank Breather Filter. I Changed The Oil and There Was More Oil In The Block Than In The Oil Tank. I Put 8 Quarts Of Oil Back In The Oil Tank and Started The Engine Again and It is Still Smokeing. Any Thought and Advise Would Helpfull. Thanks.

Did you check the oil level?

It sounds as if you overfilled bigtime but you need to check it and see where you are.

Do you know how to check the oil correctly in a 911?

is your car white?

From What I Understand You Sould Put About 8 Quarts Of Oil In The Tank and Then Start The Engine and Check The Oil While The Engine Is Running. Please Correct Me If I Am Wrong. Thanks.

You Have To Check The Oil While The Engine Is Warm And Running. You May Have Over Filled It. Start The Engine And Make Sure It Is Warmed Up Properly Before You Check The Oil.

Close.

the engine must be up to normal temp before checking the oil level.

Was the car smoking before the oil change?

Where is the level on the dipstick?

It should be between the 2 marks.

The Oil Dosn't Really Seem To Be On The Dip Stick Very Much At All. With 8 Quarts.

Add another quart and a half or so to get it up to between the marks. At least we know the level is correct at that point.

Did you do anything else to the engine besides the oil change?

Tough to diagnose over the air so please don't be offended by what seems like simple questions.

Did the car sit (without being started or driven) for any expended period?

When my car sits for a long time, the oil will migrate to the engine sump. And with horizontal cylinders, the cylinders then collect excessive oil, which begins to burn off when you finally do start/drive it again.

1976 TN,

How did you warm up the car? Did you let it idle for a little while and then check the oil? That may not be warm enough. It has to be at operating temperature.
