procesors mounted (easy access to the eq)

amp mounted against from wall on simple rack........i'm having something stronger made out of aluminum this week.

it's loud enough to overpower my new loud exhaust.........still have lots of tuning to do, this gives me yet another reason to spend more time in the 911
later
enjoy

i don't have dimensions for the box......because the smugglers box is the box.....sorta......
there is a divider under where the top board splits (in the center just next to the sub), plus some sylicon(sp?lol)........
this sealed off the steering rack/ventalation things.....still able to service anything in there.
under the sub i simply sealed up all openings to make it airtight......then i used chunks of wood to "eat up" airspace to get the volume to the subs specs........
the goal was minimum weight, amps in the nose for ballast, i only added about 20-25 lbs total.....but i DID lose alot more from the A/C removal

very cool. So I assume that the front components are bi amped from separate channels of the amp and the audio control unit is an active crossover? I had never though off doing that before, but it would work because the five channel amp has three inputs... hah. I like it. So is the spatial enhancer unit basically time delay sort of thing? I've always though time delay would be tough to set up right and it would be easier just to modify the install instead of adding more processing. But then, I've never tried it...

the enhancer i have is just a "toy" which adds ambiance at 3 selected frequencies and also manipulates the phasing (works similar to the audio control esp-2).
the amp splits the signal to all 5 channels internally so i only have to feed it L/R channels. the amp is crossingover the front channels to bandpass for the mids, the rear channels are highpass for the tweets and the sub gets the lowpass. the controls on the amp allow for complete flexibility of operation and are adjustable down the the xover slope, it's a very trick piece

time alignment is something different which requires a "phase shifter", but can be dialed in to control phasing over 360degrees between L/R. if i can't get my soundstage the way i want it i can add one to get it nailed......but with the control i have right now i doubt i'll need it

ron.....when i get the quarts installed this thing is going to be spooky......right now i definately have the power with deadly dampening and it's pretty killer, but i know my current speakers aren't going to last
i'm going to spend a few hours driving/tuning tomorrow........

i needed to run 2 speaker leads into each door......what a PAIN....
being i do this for a living i'm glad i didn't have to pay labor charges......i don't think i would want to pay that bill......i can be expensive

the sub up front sounds strong and punchy like it should

the sub in the front is simply where EVERY sub in any car needs to be.....when you goto a concert where are you looking while listening? at the stage........which is in front of you
sub-harmonic frequencies are non-dirrectional, but everything around it will resonate making it somewhat dirrectional.
also with the sub in the front you can run your crossover higher for the sub which'll add midbass to your whole front stage and take some stress out of the demands of the door speakers.

basically it sounds fantastic, i'm still playing with the internal volume of the box.....it's not quite where i want it yet. it does however make my toronto skip......which has never skipped....it's going out again this week to have the whole transport section replaced.

the changer is currently in front of the amp, i'm running no spare right now (it's trashed....need a replacement) it'll be moved....just not sure where i want to put it yet.

I have an NIB 8" sub (brand name, can't remember which...) at home. The smuggler's box is an ideal place for it! Thanks for the tip! I'll probably need another amplifier though...

Awesome job Bell! A quick question though. I've seen a few different variations of the sub in or over the smugglers box configuration, and I still can't figure it out. I experimented once by removing the smuggler's door, and mounting a board with a inverted 12" on top and it didn't sound right, like there was a speaker in the trunk. Of course I still had my AC. So I'm still trying to understand how your sub works. As I read in your installation, you fully enclosed and sealed the airspace below the sub within the smugglers box. So the sub fires into the trunk? How do the bass waves enter into the passenger compartment? By the resonance of all the stuff behind the dash?
