Electrical problems - please help

1974 911 with MSD ignition

Went for a spirited drive tonight and the radar detector and all of the lights (including the headlights) start turning off and on. I quickly turned around and came back home. I turned the car off and then tried to turn the ignition back on - nothing. I checked every wire and every fuse, nothing is loose and no fuses are blown.

I am not sure where to start. All cables are tightly connected. There is still power to the car - the flashing LED on the radio comes on when the car is turned off.

Where should I start looking?

Thank you so much for your help.

Hm, its VERY hard to find a problem, that has gone...

I'd simply continue driving the car until it returns and then start fault finding, while the problem persists.

Gee sounds like your battery cable is loose or something, or perhaps your ignition switch is "giving up".

On mine their is a connector right above your left knee if you were sitting in the car. It is between the interior and trunk area. My car acted identical to your symptons and that is where I found the problem

good luck

I replaced the electrical portion of the ignition switch and checked all of the connections.

After I did so, I tried turning the key in the ignition and nothing happened. I then noticed that there is no electricity in the car, the clock isn't running and the security LED on the radio isn't flashing.

Unfortunately I did not notice whether or not there was any electricity in the car before I started working on it this afternoon but the interior clock and the LED on the radio were lit up the other night with the key out of the ignition, after these problems began.

I pulled out my service manuals and started tracing down what powers the clock just to try and find out where it might have a problem. I checked the voltage of the battery and the battery is good. Any ideas?

Thanks for all of your help.
