How to install a 901 in a 1972

Hi,
I'm going to install a 901 and a 2 lt engine in my 72 and I need to mate the 72 shaft to the 901 transmission. I have a 911 transmission outer shaft couplers but would need to machine the part to fit in the 901. Have someone done this? I did a search but not great info. Maybe iam using incorrect words on the search tool. Please advise.
I have 2 different sets of the transmission coupler, both sets are 4 bolt 2 studs course spline type but one set is about 1/8 of a inch shorter.
Please advise,thanks

you will need an adapter/shim if you use a 915 type crossbar

Will you be keeping the 901 trans with the 3.0? Seems to me, sourcing a 915 and selling the 901 would be the way to go, everything considered. Especially if the trans you are installing is one of those 901/911 transmissions with the weak ball pivot.

the 901 & 911 transmissions have a nicer, lighter feel to them than the typ 915

more importantly, they have the wonderful road-racing shift pattern - the 2 to 3 shift is right in a straight line, perfecto, just what you want, etc.

I would keep the 901 in there "temporarily" until you blow it up
