Relaxing in the rain in Maine

1/2 dozen photos from last weeks relaxing mini-trip to Maine. Set out from PEI rather late first day but that put us at The Algonquin in St. Andrews. A great Hotel. Have stayed there many times. That's when the rain started, then entered Maine at Calais and took US1 (Coastal rt and in perfect condition) to Bar Harbour then on to Bucksport and Camden, but mostly staying in B. Harbour. Lots of rain but the Porsche performed great. Can you spot our 911 in the shot from atop the new Bucksport Bridge? All in all about 1200 miles/5 days return with some local day tours mostly along the coast. Great roads and nice people. Though we've done this trip many times, this was the first time in the Porsche and even with all the rain, this was the most enjoyable. Glad summer's finally here! Long may she reign!

PS. Note the abandoned Volvo Dealer with about ten cars left. Also, my wife summitting Cadillac Mountain

Not difficult to spot the blue midget car next to the Jeep.

When I lived in Halifax I managed a few trips to PEI for work and pleasure. It is certainly a pretty place, with lots or red dirt and beautiful sandy beaches.

The bridge sure was a handful in the big storm about three weeks after hurricane Juan. I don't recall seeing wind and rain quite that bad. It was shut down to all truck traffic.

Nice photos -- thanks! My family vacations up there every summer and I always wish we had the 911 -- beautiful roads!

Looks like a nice trip despite the weather. The car looks great. your speedo caught my attention because my 84 Coupe has 97,345 mile on the dial. It will be interesting to see which one of us North Easterners will hit the 100,000 mark first.

Nope, the coupe is a Texas car and the speedo is miles. The cab is Euro and it has 90,000 kms. The red one may be for sale as I am building a 68 SWB resto-mod. Any of your buds on the Island want one to cruise in with you?

yellowperil, where did you shoot the first speedo pic, geographically? I spent much time driving in Maine and every time I thought of going at that speed I always found a MST behind some tree, sometimes toooo late!

I would rather not answer that. I hope you're not a cop?? If you're a cop it was a trick photo, if you're not a cop it wasn't and I was just getting started but my wife put the kybosh to my plans. In any case it wasn't in the US; because as a Canadian I would not want to get caught doing ANYTHING illegal in the US. Sir Yes Sir. I had plans but they didn't include jail. But thanks for noticing and wasn't trying to be rude. By the way I only met one other 911 owner, he had a 84 or 85 Turbo and owned a nice B & B Inn in B Harbour. He was a PCA member, a nice guy, a nice INN but I forgot to ask if he was a Pelicanhead. He must be. HIs B & B was "The Moseley Cottage and Motel" in case anyone wants to know.

It would appear that rain in Maine does NOT stay mainly in the plains.

I went to college in Maine. Beautiful place, but the weather is not for the faint of heart.

Pretty car.

yellowperil, sorry to put you on the spot. No I'm not a cop, I've got tickets from one end of Route 1 to the other. I was up there many years ago and on the north end of 95 and not a freakin soul in sight for miles. I open it up and next thing you know I'm on the side of the road having a visit with the MSP, not a pretty picture. And he wasn't about to give me a warning. Also had a few run-ins with customs at the Madawaska/Edmundston crossing.
