2.7L to 3.2L with G50 conversion - my project including pictures

Its time... after spending too much money on the engine n trans - now its time to invest on the rebuilt itself!

i will start this thread for me and fo those who thing to convert their old engines n trans to 3.2 with g50.

for now what i can tell u is the prices i payed for the parts n job to be done and would like your help n tips as my mechanic doing this job on the first time.

engine+gear+pedals=8000usd
renew the gear + shorthen it = 5500 usd
job to be done (estimation ) = 1500 usd
beside the engine n trans i spent on :
4 new tires - and want to know the max size i can get there (differend thread)
new front oil radiator screen
adding booster to the old brakes
and a loot of other extras - another few $$$$$ ...

please try to give me links to other conversion threads+tips and on my side ill give u as much info as i can get + pics every day and let u know where i got problems and how we solved them (i wish there will be no problems but i know that in this kind of job "murphy rules" are working well )

You forgot pics of the car ;)

I realize that you are in Israel and the market is scarce there, but why not just buy a g50 car to start with? You might even be able to get all the work done here and ship the finished product for less... maybe I'm off a little.

Will be a fun project!

Best regards,

Michael

Good luck! G-50 install will require some real work on the body side.

That would be great if there is an easy solution as a result of shortening the bellhousing. I have an '87 with the same transmission you are installing already in place. The torsion tube is heavily changed from prior years - there is a big notch for this larger G50 gearbox to fit, and as a result the torsion bars are relocated outward. In addition, the rear seats have a larger relief between them.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: :confused::confused::confused:

so cbracerx , its not just dropping the engine and transmission and use the tansaxle carrier mount to fit the g50 to the 1976 ? im in a big problem here as i tot that is it - can u give me more details?
nobody mentioed that i need to change the torsion tube or relocate the torsion bars.

and btw what do u mean when u say "clone" like 911rsr clone or rs clone? !

CBRacerX 07-18-2009 10:14 PM

I believe that when you shorten the bellhousing most if not all of the customization to the torsion tube is no longer required. Patrick Motorsports knows their stuff so just listen to them :)
