How to transport surfboard in 80's 911?
I have an 85 coupe or else I could try this method. I have a long board so it would stick pretty far out the side window. I worry about using my thule roof rack and spoiling the rain gutters at the attachment points. This is a serious technical question by the way. My gf has my Rover for the summer (usual beach car) and I have to "make do" with my 911 for now. Anyone else using roof racks on an 80's or older 911?

When my car was owned by my bro he used roof racks for his long board. I never used them out here as I live 1,000' from high tide.
I would scoot from the Marina to Malibu without any issues whenever I was out there. I don't remember the rain gutter ever being an issue and the gutter rail never got scratched. If you shop around at a surf shop for ideas and can't get no satisfaction I'll contact my bro over this. btw... he was anal about my car being super clean, polished, and scratch free. After all that's what the Marina is all about. happy hunting

I have a Cabriolet, and ride quadfin kneeboards in the 5'6"-5'8" range...generally, I can put the passenger seat down and have no problems transporting, even with the top up.
But I also carry "soft racks", which I use on rental cars and such. I purchased them online at surfboardracks.com, they cost about $20 bucks. They will hold longboards as well, I've never had a problem with them. They are gentle on your ride and do not mount to the gutters. I've made a few trips from Texas to Cali and back with boards, going 80 mph. Check 'em out.
