Why buy that one when they will convert your pride and joy to electric for you?

I would pay $50k for that before I'd drive a Prius.

I've always hated the way the designers have to beat a new technology with the ugly stick before it hits the market. Honda Insight? Prius? What's wrong with these people?
Wanna sell a zillion dopey electric cars? Make them look exactly like a '63 Vette.
I actually like the way that 911's put together...at least you can't really tell it's electric from the outside. (assuming you're hard of hearing, that is)
In 50 years everyone will be dying to get their hands on an antique electrified Porsche...

and this from the guy that just got done putting his carbon footprint all over his discarded catalytic converter....

This guy actually has a legit product that has been written up a few times. Super heavy with apparently a weird feel due to the front end weight. (And you thought that jack up front was heavy!) I would prefer that over some Prius crap.

My Porsche mechanic has been putting together an electric 914 for a customer. I don't know too much about it other than what I observed on the lift, but the 914 seems like a great platform (initial cost used, low weight, etc.). It looked like he was using the 901 transaxle somehow. The whole thing looks as clean and well engineered as I have come to expect of him. Could be a a neat little niche Tesla alternative with the right marketing. With the price of used Boxters? It's an idea with legs.

exactly considering that the tesla is 100 grand and is nothing more than a quiet lotus, if you guys get a chance check out the top gear testing of the tesla, a bit hilarious, clarkson went through two of them sadly it seems like more of a lemon than a ford pinto

although im not a tree hugging wacko, i think its kinda cool. Have you been watching the news and reading the paper lately? lots of changes are going to happen, alot faster than we think. the new energy policy that passed yesterday is something special. There is another site I looked at recently where they were converting all kinds of cars to elec. . one was a 959. 1000lbs of torqe. (for about 2 seconds) I wouldnt be suprised in a few years that if our grandkids where tooling around in our porsche's, with elec motors.

I have a neighbor that did his own conversion of a BMW 2002. He tells me this is his 2nd conversion job. He looks to be well into his 70's, so he may not do a 3rd. I'm told it cost 10K.

On the eBay thing, it says the tranny is manual. Do you shift electrics?

"This Porsche will travel 100+ MPH and has a range of over 120 MILES!!!!!"

This statement contradics itself...

~ The range of 120 miles would be at Granny pace only.... If you drove this thing hard you would be lucky to get 30miles.

My educated guess >> At 100+mph you would get about 12 miles before the batteries would be flat.

Now if you happy with a range of about 50 miles before and overnight charge is needed then go for it....
Meanwhile factor in the cost of battery replacement every 12 months.

BTW: The batteries in the "Prius" are designed to last 9 years. (What this really means is they'll last about 5 before they become "tired")...
After you factor in the cost of new batteries it's actually cheaper to drive a comparable gas car.

(Argue away but I've done the math)
