HELP!!! loosing a lot of oil from 911 SC
When I start the car this morning and drove 10 kilometer, and stopped the car, there was maybe 1 liter with oil leaking from my car on the right side.
It was not possible to see where it comes from. What can be the reason? can it be expensive to repair it? Please help. Bjarte ------------------ 1979 911 SC 3.0 Norway |

A common leaking site on these cars can be the oil return tubes. These are located between the head and the case on the bottom of the engine and are about 1 inch (2.54cm in your country) in diameter, very obvious when you look under the car. There are 4 of them.
I would suggest getting a spray can of non-flammable (look on the can b/c there is also a flammable version) Brake Cleaner and degrease/deoil the bottom of the engine. Let the stuff evaporate, then look for where the leak is. If it is the return tubes, these are easilly fixed with "expandible" ones. You can crush and rip out the old ones and install these expandible ones without taking the engine out and apart. Pelican has them for sale as a set of 4. Very easy. Although if your leak were on my car (as things have usually gone for me) it would be coming from some wierd place that I could not get to without tearing everything apart. Lets hope your luck is better than mine! Nick. ------------------ __________ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe |

I had an oil leak a few summers ago and the oil was coming from the right (passenger) side . It was pouring out so I had the car flat bedded. Turned out to be the main seal which is cheap. Unfortunately the engine has to be pulled to install the seal. I hope it is your oil return tubes!

If its coming from the right side, you may want to check your oil pressure switch. That often springs a leak, and it can be quite a large leak.

Carefully check also your rubber oil lines from the tank to the front oil cooler and backwards. There migt be a small crack which opens with heat!
Had this once, lost about 7 ltr. of oil causing a smoke like a blown F1-engine ( I was driving 160 km/h). Scaaaary!!! Jens |
