does this make sense?

Finished the SSI/muffler install. Went for a test drive. After if got all warmed up, it started to sputter a bit in mid range but not all the time, and not under full throtle. Got back home pulled in the garage and the idle started "hunting".
I unplugged the DME and plugged it back in. When I started the car the "hunting" was gone. Does unplugging the DME reset it?

What do you mean by unplugged the DME? Did you unplug the flowmeter, the computer, the AIC (automatic idle control) motor, which one?

There is a basic memory function in the computer for the idle speed that the AIC regulates. Sometimes you confuse it with radical changes and it tries to run the memory positions and this makes it idle abnormally. If you drive for 20 or 30 min, or unplug for awhile so the memory resets, this can cause it to "relearn" to the new situation.

Just my thoughts,
Nick.

I unplugged the computer under the drivers seat. I'm going out for another drive to see if it acts up again

I believe disconnecting the battery has the same effect as unpluging the DME cable.

Jim,

Even if it did reset the DME memory, taking the connector off and back on could have wiped off some oxidation on the connector that may have been causing 'flakey' sensor readings and causing your hunting idle!
