I had a peek at the Protomotive (PM) website and pricing and I see their stage 1 listed at 8.5k installed and I remember you saying you got yours for 5k installed. Did you get a discount or is there a new price structure? Also, was your motronic reprogrammed or did they just raise fuel pressure for the enrichment? I'm unsure on how raised fuel press. works as doesn't it also mean that you run too rich when the engine is of boost? Your project sounds exciting. Haltech is much cheaper than Motec (1,145 for the basic E6k package) and probably as good for a non-racing application (Bruce, your thoughts on this??). Bellotech uses it in their drag Porsche (9.1 1/4mile on street tires) so why don't you try them for suggestions. Why don't you go with the PM stage 4 or 5 package for your 3.2? Since you already have a relationship with them, I'm sure they can do a good package for you. Be prepared to spend big bucks though. The law of diminishing returns applies big time once you're done with the bolt on route. For me to go the next step to Bruce's set up means spending 4 times what I've spent already. So give us a budget indication and I'll give my 2 cents worth of suggestions. |
I think for drag racing applications Electromotive and Haltech are great. For street and track driving, I'd go with Motec. And I did.
As to whether it's "worth it", that depends on how much dough you got and how you want to spend it. I do not believe that Motec is 4 times better than Haltech or Electromotive in the abstract. But Electromotive's problems with my set-up drove me crazy. So I spent the extra dough. Motec offers a precision in programming, and a multiplicity of sensors, that Electromotive can't match, but....it's a lot of dough. And it's not the most expensive, either. |
930,The price on my set up was less because i don't have headers,the fuel was raised with a different fuel regulator,if i was going to use my people again it will be real expensive so i think that i will do the job myself even if it takes a year because of my travel,the cylinder heads a was going to let Eddie Bellos do them i talk to him at Florida,i im sure i be safe on that dept,looks like the haletech has a good rep so i will have to go that way,so far i figure around $7500 if i do it my self,i HAVE to be able to run 12s if i want to be competitive,even that last time at the track my time was a dissaster and i had not traction, then that 2 to 3 what a PAIN!!she was running 14.99 SLOWWWW,but i will install some of DOT street tires and see,she runs good but she can always run better.

Jaun - it's time for a new motor buddy. You're putting too much $$$ into your 3.2 trying to make it perform like a 3.3T. Sell your motor and start over with a 930 unit. The sky is the limit with those motors. Your mechanical talents will save you big bux on the manditory upgrades as well. I saw one being put together when I was in Texas : twin turbos, twin throttle bodies, engine management, huge intercooler. Horsepower estimated around 800. This was a STREET car. I want to build mine like that so bad I could spit. Unfortunately, at this time in my life it is just too impractical. But, I digress. I just thought you might need a little slap in the face of reality. God knows I could use it at times!

Hey, guys! Your discussions under this topic have provided me with some great ideas! One other question, I wanted to stick with the lighter C2T 3.3 versus the heavier 1994 3.6 4WD model. Assuming all the same upgrades are performed (turbo, intercooler, engine management, cams, exhaust, compression, etc.), does the 3.6 provide any additional benefits over the 3.3 besides displacement, big red brakes, and all wheel drive?

If the 3.6 turbo has 4 wheel drive, it's news to me.
In fact, it doesn't. Just the two wheels God intended drive that baby. Left and right rear. |
Thanks for the clarification. I was a bit confused because the 2000 PCA Club Racing Rules appendix lists curb weights of the 3.3 C2T at 3000 lbs and the 3.6 at 3274 lbs. I have a feeling this is an error. I assume then that the 1991 - 1994 turbo models were relatively the same weight, at around 3274?
