Swepco

I was doing a little research and discovered that swepco 201 come in different weights. What is the correct weight?

I believe the current wisdom from Swepco advocate (and shareholder?) Warren Hall is straight 90 weight Swepco 201.

I was just about to post the same topic: my 915 5-spd is starting to get stubbornly vocal about quick, high-RPM shifts into second.

I've driven a 911 with a crunching-915 before and after it was filled with Swepco; the synthetic lube certainly dulled things but you could still crunch it into second and third, although more force was required than before.

I was wondering, would higher-than-90-weight Swepco make a weary 915 more tolerable (and useable) on the track?

I've been using SAE90 Swepco 201 gear lube in my two 911's for years with no problems. I change the fluid annually which is a little excessive, but it makes me happy and the gear boxes happy.

Both cars see a combination of street and track usage. Great stuff...plus you get the blue color for free.

Recently I developed a little noise in my tranny , which my mechanic said was completely normal. It almost sounded like a throwout bearing. The previous mechanic had put Mobil 90 in at my 45000 service.
I asked Ivan to put in the Swepco last week and after driving for less than one hundred miles the noise is significantly reduced. Only Swepco for me from here on out!!!!!!!

I may be wrong, but I think that Swepco 210 is another version of 201 in a different weight. I have heard people talk about it on this board before. I think Warren knows, so maybe he will chime in on this one with more specific info.

Nick.

Okay

This has been flosting around for a while now.

There are 2 Swepco 201's

The Blue (which everyone. Pelican, Tweeks, Zims sells) SAE 80w90

And The regular Grey (WHICH I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO GET, HELP!) which is the straight SAE 90

Where do you guys (the ones following the warren and bentley manual) get the SAE 90??????????????

I emailed Zims and while they said they could get it they said why go through the trouble...there is barely a difference...

any thoughts?

Check with Tweeks. I've read that they carry the straight 90. Also Carquip, in Colorado. I got the 90 weight Swepco 203 that I use (for my overmatched 915) from them.
