Continued no start problems

After replacing the starter and the DME Relay, I have continued to be unable to get my car (1987 3.2 Coupe) started. We have checked the CHT sensor, Speed and Reference sensors and all were good. We went back to the fuel pump fuse and we were able to get the car started by manually jumping the fuel pump. We have checked the wiring to the DME relay with no problems. We did however find a no ground situation coming from the DME to pin 85 in the DME relay. We pulled the DME to look for bad soldering and ran across 4 -5 pins that looked "corroded". I have included a picture as best as I could.

Does anyone have any thoughts about what we can do next? Can the DME be cleaned/repaired? If so, how do we go about fixing it. My brother -in-law is a mechanic and could re-solder if need be but I am not sure if that is what it needs? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I would love to be able to drive my car at some point this year.

Len

Discoloration means heat, heat means something failed. DME's can be repaired. I had mine repaired hear in South Florida. You might want to try putting where you are at in you signature along with your car details. A friendly pelican may actually come buy and let you try his Motronic (DME) to see if that is the problem. Otherwise you will likely be chasing parts, I know I did.

Thanks DonMo. Good idea. Here's my info. Did you send your DME to Porsche DME in Ft. Lauderdale? I just ran across their ad in Panorama.

The discoloration looks like flux and not like an issue. And this is the Bosch 0127 IC that drives the injector output stage. It has nothing to do with the DME relay output. So soldering there will not do you any good.

Pin 22 of the DME is a switched GND that goes to the DME relay. When you crank the engine (power to pin 4 of the DME or when the engine is running pin 22 supplies GND to the DME relay turning on the fuel pump and the heater for the O2 sensor.

If you are interested I can bench-test and if required repair your DME. Drop me a PM for details. I could also provide a loaner so you can check if a known good DME fixes your issue.

I used specialized ECU repair in South Florida to repair mine, but Ingo has a good reputation and is here on Pelican routinely helping. His offer is hard to turn down. I would PM him for details and pricing, you now have choices.

I used Specialized ECU due to them being in the "backyard" if you will, dropped it off in the afternoon, picked it up the next.
