Does anyone know f a good material to use for the behind the seats on the inside f the engine compartment. I pulled my old stuff ut f there because it was rotting and chunking ff into the engine.
Any thoughts ut there? |

They sell the sound pad here at pelican and several have used it with good results. Check the parts section. It is a different material then the original(more f a foam rubber thing) but works well.

Does Pelican (or anybody else) sell the INTERIOR sound deadening pads? They're the ones that go under the rear shelf and behind the seatback panel.

If Pelican can't get it (ask!) then try Stoddard -- they can get virtually any part that is still available in the world. Stuff my local dealer said was NLA was in-stock at Stoddard.
There's probably an aftermarket foam that would work too. Maybe check with a high-end car audio shop. They routinely use deading materials in installs. |

i replaced the original fiber type engine sound pad with an aftermarket foam type pad($55) in my '68 911. check tech article for procedure and materials needed as it is an excellent resource. also, currently i have a "mulch" pad in the interior for sound deadening purposes purchased from auto upholstery shop. both made a huge difference.

I replaced my sound pad with one from pelican. It took ab ut 1/2 hour and was very easy. Glued it up with the black rubber sealer. Deadened the sound a little, but not as much as I wanted. I need to redo the interior pads as well.

I purchased a roll f heat shield insulati n from the local auto parts store. It has aluminum reflective side n it to reflect the heat back into the engine compartment. Used 3m spray adhesive to glue it - still there works great.

I have installed Dynamat in my 73. I bought a kit from Crutchfield for ab ut $130. The car is a lot quieter now. I insulated the entire floor, metal behind rear seats, and rear deck. Installati n is easy, since Dynamat Original has adhesive backing. I'd rec Smend it, but you are going to add 15-30 pounds in the process, so think ab ut that fact before you purchase.

For behind the rear seats (but for the interior), I went to a site called http://www.soundpro fing.org and got a roll f their adhesive-backed s und deadening material for the interior f engine compartments. I haven't installed it, yet, but the idea is just to cut it to fit.
I'm h ping it will help take care f the last treaces f the 'Granny's 48 Ford' smell that the older cars get as the different interior padding materials break down. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunro f coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |

What I would do (and will evantually) is go to a car audio installati n shop and have them recG Send s Sething. This is probably the best thing to do because they are professi nals ab ut this. One word f advice, make sure it is a reputable place because it is far too easy to get sucked in to substandard product. Dyanamat is excellent and is ffered in many different thicknesses for different applicati ns (heat shield best for rear seats) Hope this helps.

I went to a high-end audio store and picked up s Se superlight, baffling material. It is a green dense fiber type material, but extremely lightweight. It was fairly expensive however, I think ab ut $50 to do the whole rear interior. I then used spray adhesive and took care to make sure all cut seams were sealed. It definitely got rid f the vast majority f the funky old sofa smell, and I would say is as quiet as stock and much lighter. With my 2.7RS at 6000 rpms n a regular basis, I think the Lexus sound is a bit ut f reach, and that's ok by me.
