Weltmeister rear drop links
I have an old weltmeister 22mm bar on the rear of my 72 and the drop links have a spherical rod end on one end and at the other it has a fitting where there is a bushing as you can see in the pic: I changed the front drop links so there is no longer that fitting with the crumbling bushing, both ends have spherical rod ends now, and I want to do the same in the rear as the bushing is crumbling away. Does anyone know what size length wise, thread, etc. ‘male’ spherical rod end it is that I need to buy in order to make this work? I'm sure someone has done this, well I hope at least?
Thanks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1246628239.jpg |

You have two choices, an externally or internally-threaded drop link (the existing WM is externally threaded). Either type can be purchased from various sources. Internally-threaded drop links will offer slightly more weather protection for the threads and usually hex-shaped for adjustment with a wrench. Try the typical race parts sources (Racer's Warehouse, Pegasus Racing, Summit Racing, Jegs, etc. Here's one source I use: www.midwestcontrol.com The top WM rod end uses a 5/16" SAE bolt attachment to the spring plate with a 3/8" (I think) female thread onto the male drop link. Since you're collecting parts for this upgrade, you're free to use/replace whatever size works on the bottom (bigger is usually stronger). I'd use at least a 3/8" rod end to replace the existing WM rubber bushing, so a 3/8" threaded drop link will work. I hope that's sorta clear. Sherwood |
Thanks for the info, and I think I might have a cheap fix for this. I changed out the fronts with custom drop links that one can find online for Porsches. I have the old units left over that have a spherical rod end on one side, I'm pretty sure all I need to do now is buy a short stud to join the existing rod end which is bolted to the spring plate with the old spherical rod end I have from the old front links? By golly this may work out!
