Removal of front valance on an 82 SC
Anybody ever done that. I thought I change the valance out as my car goes for paint in a few days. How does the front assembly come apart, the easy way, or is there an easy way?

If you going to replace it with an after-market part beware of ground clearance problems entering or exiting driveways. I've gone thru that; bought the car that way.

If I had a dollar for every time I had to take mine on and off as I was trying to get everything straight when I was restoring my car. Terrifying visions of a 6 foot straight edge and a level come to mind....
Anyhow, I painted mine off the car. If you are painting the entire car I would recommend painting as many parts as you can off the car. Less overspray, better paint at curves and at the junctions with adjacent parts. So, take the black rubber from the front of the bumper (2 screws at either end and snaps all the way across. Remove the bumper bolts (4) and pull the bumper out a bit. You will need to remove the headlights to access the plugs for the turn signals. Do this and unplug them and pull the wires out of the headlight bezel. Disconnect the hose for the headlight washers between the car and the bumper. This should free the bumper. Once the bumper is out, disconnect the wires for the fogs (in the luggage compartment) and pull the wires out. Now, unscrew the two 8mm bolts on either side that attach the valence to the bumper extention. Then remove the bolts that attach the upside-down U shaped bracket from the car body to the valence, on either side. This bracket also serves to hold the washer fluid tank on the drivers side and the horns on the passenger side, these items do not need to be removed to get the valence off. The last step is to remove the 2 bolts that go thru from the luggage compartment into the front of the valence. This should free the valence from the car. Hope this helps.
