71 T info wanted
I am going to look at a 71T targa soon and need some info on the model. Did the 71t come originally with carbs? Would it have deep 6's? What would the engine #'s start with?
The car is not running of coarse, and I don't need another project. But it is suppose to be all there and hopefully it doesn't have a rust problem. So I figure its worth it to take a look. And I would like to have a targa as I already have a coupe. But I would like it to be fairly original. Anything special to look out for in the 71? Thanks

Yes, the T model in '71 ran with carbs. Most were equiped with Zenith but according to Peter Morgan some '71 T's still came equiped with Webers.
There are several possible type engines for a '71 T Targa: 911 T Targa ROW is type 911/06 6110001 onwards 911 T Targa US is type 911/07 6114001 onwards 911 T Targa Sporto is type 911/06 6119501 onwards 911 T Targa Sporto US is type 911/08 6119501 onwards (how's that for confusion) The '71 model year was a transition for several things like wheels, outside mirrors, external trim like bright engine grill, etc. The cars produced up to March '71 would have mostly come with non-heart deep sixes, after that early flat sixes with a three prong center cap. In some markets the standard T model wheel was 15 inch steel wheels.

The clutch release mechanism and cable is an odd design that year. Not everyone likes it.
