Retrofitting an idle stabilizer
 
My 74 911S has a CIS with the "hand" accelerator, which is not the most practical thing... Is there a way to retrofit an idle stabilizer (or auxiliary air valve) as found in later CIS equipped cars ?

Yes there is. CIS that uses AAV operates it with heat generated by engine and current that heats the bimetallic strip and depends on thermo-time switch (that operates cold start injector and WUR itself also).

You could use it only to operate with engine heat (open when cold and gradually close when engine warms up) if you don't feel comfortable messing with wiring.

But does the valve fits somewhere, or does the fuel distributor or throttle body needs to be replaced ?

you just have to figure out how to plumb it to allow it to let air in below throttle. wiring is easy. a ground and power with the key on.

Are you sure you want to do this? A lot of people want to get rid of their auxiliary air system. Do a search on Auxiliary Air Valve (AAV) and Auxiliary air regulator (AAR). The one you want is the regulator.

The easiest way is to retrofit a complete 76 CIS injection system with the late style airbox that has the internal plumbing for the cold start mixture. That's how I did mine and never had an airbox explosion.

Yes the regulator is the one I want, but I knew it as the AAV...

hum... if the valve has to operate with engine heat then it should be fixed to the engine somehow, a bracket won't do probably, right ?

I did this on a 73 cis. Totally easy. Used the IAC off a junkyard CIS VW Rabbit. Plumbed into one of the idle hoses with a Tee. Just zip tie it in there and run 12v to it. Even without direct contact with the engine case It works fine. Makes car way better.

Good, I was worried if it would work without contact to the engine.

So, afterwards you didn't had to use the hand throttle anymore ?
