ignition switch replacement Hello, I thought I would share my experience in replacing the electrical portion of my ignition switch on my 77S targa. I had bought the switch and shear bolts several years ago for a ignition problem that turned out to be a thermal issue on a Perma-tune box. After reading a post on the electrical portion a week or so ago, I decided to replace my switch. In Waynes book he "hints" that it may be possible to replace the electrical piece with out removing the rest of the switch. I liked this idea! as I didn't want to grind off the heads. It worked pretty well, I pulled off the connector and several of the other plugs in the area and removed the easy to get to screw. I then cut a small srewdiver down to 2" and using a very small pliers to turn the shaft I was able to remove the upper screw after a couple of tries. It wasn't too hard putting it back either, I did the top screw first, so I would be able to tell if I was tightening it down. then I put the lower one back in and connected all the electrical back up. It took about a half hour, no cussing! but of course I had to contortion myself under the dash to do it! Rutager |
