Seat belt retractor

I bought replacement used belts for "86" because the webbing on the passenger side has a 1/2" cut in it just above where it goes into the receptacle. The used webbing and retractors look great although the ring (guide) that attaches above shoulder looks faded and grey (should be all black) Wondering if I can just replace the webbing and keep my shoulder slide attachment and even my retractors. I did all the searches for this and found some can be done and some not, which is mine? Mostly read about 25' spring that comes shooting out and turns to spaghetti. My question is can I remove my old webbing from my retractor, replace it using all my old trim and the webbing off the unit I bought. My car is an "86" and the replacement belts are from an "86". Pictures along with instruction would be great.

Belt material should really be replaced every ten years or so, if it is discolored it's probably shot. Try peparts.com or maybe our host has new belts.

Thanks the replacement webbing is in perfect condition. Need to know if I can just change out the webbing from the retractor and how it can be done.

OK for anyone following this I have figured this out and its relatively easy. Remember these belts are from an "86". Having retractor in hand and holding it vertically (as would be while mounted) I pulled the webbing all the way to the end so the aluminum spool was showing, locked it there with small vice grips, you don't want it to get loose. The end of the belt threads thru the slot in the middle of the spool. It does have the loop there but flattens out to make it thru the slot in the sppol. Once threaded thru (small flat blade screwdriver works well to push it thru) then the round pin goes into the loop and pulled tight so it sits in its well on the spool. To remove its just the opposite, web all the way out, lock spool with vise grips (try not to destroy the aluminum spool) and push non pin end thru slot and the looped pin end will pop out of the well, remove pin and pull webbing out thru slot in spool. No taking covers off, no spring going nuts and no mechanisms to get messed up. Pretty easy and is only 15 minutes to do once you have the retractor and trim out of the car.
