San Jose, Ca -- Recommended Garages?

			Hello,

Just bought my first Porsche and came across these forums. It has something like 161,000 miles. It was a lot higher than I wanted, but it was the right year , the right color, smooth interior / exterior, and what I hope was the right price. I had never driven a manual before, so I am sure the first two days learning to drive her I broke/wore out something. I can already tell it's leaking oil -- but not sure at what rate yet. So, San Jose, Ca -- Recommended Garages? I'd like to take the car in and have someone give it a through inspection. Last edited by Zether89; 06-20-2009 at 11:31 AM.. |

Search "Tom Amon" on this forum at mobile works west...he's nearby and a terrific guy. He has a mobile service but also a shop. Extremely knowledgable and is able to give you reasonable recommendations.

				Don's Autowerks

I have had my 1967 912 and 1986 Carrera both happily serviced at Don's Autowerks for years. No complaints and lots of praise.

There are many great places in the general area, some mentioned here. Be aware that the PCA regions in the SF Bay Area are full of people that can help guide you to services that have longstanding reputations, and that many of these folks don't have much time to get on the internet.

Don has a great reputation in Campbell, as does Sportech. The team at Jerry Woods Enterprises/Smartracing Products are all great, but general automotive service is not as much in their sweet spot as others. If you live in that area, or can get there, I suggest you visit all three of these businesses and introduce yourself. They are ll withing a few minutes of eachother. Bob Grigsby, and Dan and Dan at RMG (R.M. Grigsby...Real Mean Garage), are awesome in Sunnyvale. Then further north in Mountain View are Dave Modderman's shop, and Tony Heyer's shop. They are also excellent, and have ties all the way back to when the Porsche factory race team was supporting a 935 world championship effort out of Mountain View. The group of folks and businesses (like the original Automotion) that sprung from those days is pretty vast and many are still in businesses related to Porsches. So there are lots of choices. I would suggest joining the PCA, and working with a shop that has a great reputation with PCA members and have supported the PCA through the years. Congrats on getting a 911, and I hope that your mechanical issue(s) aren't difficult to find/fix. - Mike PCA member since 1987

I currently take my other current vehicles to Over Kill Street Works And I have been very happy with Justin, but I'd feel a little more comfortable working with a Porsche specialist for any of the major issues: like an Engine rebuild. Dose any one have any experience with CT Automotive in Campbell? In regards to PCA. I was unsure of what that was until about 5 Google seconds ago. I'll look into joining, thanks. -Steve |

The car I now own was cared for by Don both at his former place of employment and his current shop. I don't know the man at all, but his work speaks for itself. I have a trouble free, '88 with 240K miles and no rebuilds. It did get a clutch and kit and all of that works perfectly. It got a new distributor and the tune is great.

+2 for Tom Amon's shop. They maintained my (Adom's) 81 Targa for years. Also, Bud Hart if he is still repairing Porsches. He always did good work on my 79.

I believe CT-Automotive was Tom Amons shop before he sold it and went mobile. +1 for Don Wise in Cample. (Don's autowerks) or sportech.

(Mahler9th) Mike is correct, heed his words. He's been in that region a long time. I go with one of the shops in his comment.

CT Automotive has changed hands a few times. That makes me uncomfortable. There are better choices in your area.
