Anyone in SoCal who could help do a partial engine drop?
 

Never done one before and I've got to get some leaks at the top of the engine fixed (possibly front seal as well).

I'm in the North Orange County/Southbay area and am happy to travel within 50 miles or so.

You really don't need a helper. Just read up and go slowly.

The experience, confidence, and pride that you would gain by doing it yourself are really worth taking the time to DIY. Its not that difficult if you are mechanically inclined. Read up on it and go step by step, slowly. Don't set a time limit to get it done. One bolt at a time.

I think you need to approach this the Pelican way.

You announce an engine drop party - beer, chips/dip and other munchies included. A wide screen TV showing a major sporting event and surround sound, all in the work area, is an added bonus. Invite anyone who's interested. Mention the tools you may not have and would appreciate to make this job a little easier (floor jacks, jack stands, special tools, oil, gaskets, first aid kit, wide screen tv, etc.).

You'll get many takers, just for the chance to meet up and discuss cars, women, politics, etc. Oh, they might also (probably) help you with the removal part of the task. You might get more if you provide overnight accommodations and meals for the other half of the job (replacement).

I forgot chairs. You can't provide adequate technical assistance without having chairs or other lounging equipment.

I'll second what Sherwood says. On the subject of women, if there are some nice looking "pit snakes" around to fill the beer steins, you will get more people than will fit under the car.

OK, I'll get serious, too. It's nice to have a 2nd person for support and technical advice. There are plenty around. But, go by the book regardless. It's a good check list so you don't end up having your engine dangling by the clutch cable.
