From dipstick "fishing" and tire choices to cam timing and engine rebuilding, this site has covered it all. Offering the most complete set of pictures of the Carrera GT anywhere. And that CD, what a stroke of genius! The information gained and the entertainment is boundless. Wayne this is customer service and concern at its finest. All I can say, as the many have before me, Thank You from the bottom of my oil tank!

Before I found this page I could only talk to Porsche friends in the Copenhagen area. Now I talk to Porsche friends from all over the world. This page is great!

An online international Porsche Club.

Only downside is that I now spend far too much time on the internet...

I am a new porsche owner as well as a new member to this bb. I find it to be an invaluable tool. not only to resolve problems in a quick inexpensive way, but to associate with such a great group of people. I am fortunate to have you guys moderate this and look forward to your expansion.

ohecht 01-29-2001 04:14 AM

This website has been a fantastic resource for me as a new owner. I routinely use the advice, both from technical articales and other users, to work on my car and save hundreds of dollars in repair costs.

As mentioned by others, the biggest strength of this site is the fact that Wayne and Tom allow a totally open discussion designed to satisfy their customers and reduce their repair costs rather than costantly "pushing" their parts for sale.

When I bought my 1973 911T over a year ago, I really knew nothing about the car. The Pelican Parts webpage and BBS have really provided me with a lot of useful information. The technical articles on the Pelican Parts webpage have saved me hundreds of dollars, and have saved me a great deal of time. It is nice to know that any repairs that I have to make to my car have already been performed by a member of the Pelican Parts bulletin board, and I will always be able to ask questions and receive answers quickly. The Pelican Parts moderator has done an excellent job to prevent useless posts, and the members are always professional with their responses.

I now visit the BBS on a daily basis to read new posts, and I try to help when I can. I can't remember a time when the Pelican Parts webpage was down, and the webpage is updated with new tech articles often. Thanks Pelican!

Dear VC's,

Just a couple of notes;

1. As seen by shear volume this is a very successful BB

2. Most of us Porsche owners have above average income levels and are willing to pay for an expensive hobby

3. The loyality to pelican is quite high. When i need parts i always chech pleican first, they do get 85% of my business.

4. I check the site daily, just after my stocks.

5 The market is littered with "dot.gones"
Pelican is here to stay.

6. On a teecnical note, there Web site is the best in their market, they were the first to understand E-commerce. They will make a valuable contribution to your porfolio

Wayne,
This site has been has completely changed the way I do business with regards to my Porsche. Before I knew about this board and Pelican Parts, I was forced to pay whatever ridiculous price unscrupulous shop owners felt like charging me for parts as well as service. This site has been instrumental in educating me on the systems and acceptable repair costs for my Porsche. I would still be in the dark ages had it not been for this wonderful sight, B.B., and of course, you..... Wayne.
Thank You,
Pete

I think all of the replies above have said what I feel. So what can I say?

I'd say that resources like those that Pelican Parts offers, like the BBS, the Classifieds, the Technical Articles, and the extensive parts catalog, are not just helpful, but a necessity. The network of enthusiasts that respond and interact with this site have created a culture of knowledgeable experts.

If I were looking to associate myself or company with a group, I would want to align myself with people who share information willingly, just like the people who visit Pelican Parts. There is no better way to promote than by word of mouth.

Mully 01-29-2001 08:48 AM

I would simply state that the web site and BBS have provided me with answers to questions which would have cost me big at a dealer.I buy parts from pelecan directly do to this!!

Allan Broadribb 01-29-2001 08:58 AM

Just can't live without this web site. With this resource behind me I don't think there's anything I wouldn't undertake to repair on my 911.

As for parts, I always buy my parts from Pelican.

Bill Douglas 01-29-2001 10:42 AM

An interesting point is Pelican Parts probably don't mean less trade for the dealerships. Pelican's customers are Porsche enthusists that enjoy working on their own cars and knowing all about them. And keeping old cars on the road. Where as in a Porsche dealership it's just a bunch of lard-ass old men driving up to get their car serviced.

roGERK 01-29-2001 10:48 AM

This is the best site on the web for anyone who owns and maintains a Porsche.

In particular the 911 board is simply outstanding.

Couple this to a friendly and reliable mail order business which very often undercuts its rivals by as much as 30% and you have a winner.

I would also like to register my appreciation of the site.

In my experience it represents the premier pre '89 Porsche 911 site, and from my rather more limited experience it also sets the internet standard for other Porsche models.

Thanks again,

Regards

This PP BB and internet site has made owning and maintaining a dream become reality for me. I would have exhausted financial resources long ago had it not been for the help of so many from across the World, who have given sound advice and recommendations keeping me from paying a local mechanic. The technical advice and simplicity to obtain repair parts at a great price from PP has been made foundation increased my ability to do more with my resources available.

The service from PP is second to none which is why they are my primary supplier of all parts needed.

Thanks so very much,

Wayne and Co.,
I can't really add much to everybody else's comments on both the site and BBS, but damn this BBS is so addicting! One thing I love about you guys is when I asked if you guys had something(say, a dual shock kit that resembles real 930 decklids, one on each side) and you didn't, the next thing you guys said was, "WE CAN GET IT FOR YOU!" Now that's dedication! Thanks guys!

Not much I can add to the previous comments. This is "the" most outstatanding Porsche forum on the internet! Does Pelican Parts have to host this site? No, but they do, and we greatly appreciate it. Thanks to Pelican Parts and Wayne.....

Wayne,

Your Bulliten Board has been an invaluable resource, both for my Porsche and for my relationship. Even though you are in Ca and I am in NC, I have ordered parts from you whenever time allows. Please keep up the good work. Also, please establish a dist. center on the east coast so we can enjoy your way of doing business more!!!!!

P.S. I admire the model that your corporation emphisizes. Your unpressured way of doing business and the class (and application knowledge) that you bring to your market is unprecedented.

I'm new to Porsche's and I cannot get over the valuable resorce your web site is. The members are very helpful. Keep up the great work
Thanks

Before I bought a Porsche, I was very apprehensive, since I knew little about them. Most of what I've learned has been through the direct or indirect use of this BBS. I was able to pose questions about problem areas regarding the various members of the 911 family (SC, Carrera, 964, 993, 996, etc.) that I was considering purchasing and either get answers or get pointed to books or other information sources that could provide the answers (I ended up buying the owners manuals for several versions of Porsches from Pelican parts so I would be able to test the functionality of all the "bells and whistles" of a car when inspecting for potential purchase). That sounds sort of trivial, but some of the controls for such things as heating and AC can seem awkward to someone not familiar with them. After getting one of these books, I was able to determine that the entire heating and AC on one Carrera was malfunctioning in a big way. I got on this site and realized the repairs could easilly run into thousands of dollars. Had it not been for the people on this BBS and Pelican Parts, I could easilly have ended up with a car that needed anywhere from $2000 to $15000 worth of work.

When I placed my order with Pelican Parts, the service was EXCELLENT and TIMELY. It's good, for a change, to work with a firm that still understands what customer service is.

Thanks.

This website is the cornerstone of my web surfing. I have visited this site every day for the last 2 1/2 years, and would really miss it if it were to go away.

Driving and working on my 78 911SC is one of my main free time recreations, and I consider Pelican Parts bulletin board to be my primary source of infomation and discussion on this topic. Definately the best Porsche BBS on the web.

Just to add an international flavour. The information on this BBS and the site in general is useful around the world. The level of customer loyalty engendered by the BBS is such that parts will be purchased from Pelican when I require them - it will be my first choice supplier. Personally I liken this BBS to the modern equivalent of the Green Shield stamp or Co-Op divi (apologies if you don't know what I'm talking about) - by generating customer loyalty through providing 'something for nothing' the business can only benefit.

I don't even own a Porsche (yet!) but I still read this BBS every day. It is by far the best source of information on 911's that I have found, it is supported by extremely knowledgeable people and is provided by a great company, Pelican Parts. I consider its continuing existence and growth extremely important.

Wayne/Tom et al - can't really add anything new only reinforce what many others have already said about this BBs (& the rest of the PP site too): totally addictive! Can't even restrict myself to viewing it only once per day! Apart from the sheer volume of valuable information it produces, there's the humour & the stimulation of ideas prompted by other enthusiasts experiences. Although I'm in the UK, when I'm logged onto this site I don't feel like I'm on the other side of the world - I'm even getting ready to attend Warren's Party!!
There is nothing to touch this BBS for 911 enthusiasts anywhere else on the internet.

This Bulletin board has been and is an excellent source for help and advise dealing with Porsche 911s (and 912s). It is the best place to go to with all your Porsche needs and questions. Thanks for the great site!

All my purchases for my ‘81 911 that I have made via mailorder / internet have been from Pelican Parts. I buy from Pelican Parts for the following reasons:
1. This bulletin board which has been a tremendous technical help to me.
2. Product knowledge on the part of Pelican Parts.
3. Quality sales service.
4. Price reasonableness
I will continue to trade with Pelican Parts.

jmcjunkin 01-30-2001 08:38 PM

I have been one of the quiet observers on this BBS, but have learned a tremendous amount over the past 8 months. Pelican Parts is now part of my daily routine; it is the only site I must visit before retiring for the day. I am passionate about the old 911s, and this site allows me to explore and develop this passion -- much to the dismay of my wife.

I work at a venture capital firm, and would be happy to help give the perspective of the "other side" in the fundraising process.

930fan 01-31-2001 02:24 AM

Wayne and Tom,

Best of luck in your quest for the big bucks. You deserve every penny of it for creating the best site on the internet for Porsche parts and advice.

scott matre 01-31-2001 11:48 AM

Wayne, Please allow me to add to my earlier post.
I was doing some additional thinking about your search for funding and request for comments. I realized that while I spoke my mind about the value of your BBS, I mentioned nothing about the site itself. Please allow me to comment:

In addition to enjoying the personalities and information available on your BBS, other areas of your web site are equally as valued and useful. Your firm has also done an excellent job of assuring that Pelicanparts is not an empty shell with a good-looking 'E' front end. They are courteous, knowledgable and helpful. Products are delivered when promised, and at the price quoted.

On the web-side, the catalog is very well laid out and makes shopping quite easy. I have been able to find parts on your site quicker than in several paper catalogs that I am inundated with. IMHO, the technical articles and diagrams are also very valuable to the Do-it-yourself Porsche enthusiast. If this is the market segment you are after, you hit the nail on the head.

Bill Verburg 01-31-2001 02:51 PM

I wish something like this site was available when I first bought a Porsche, I could have saved a ton of $ and time from not doing trial and error engineering. This site is an invaluable resource.
