what the heck happened to my door locks???
all of a sudden my door locks don't work right anymore...
here are the scenarios: 1.with the passenger side door unlocked: pressing the lock button in the console locks and unlocks only the driver's side. 2. with the passenger side locked (manually): pressing the lock button in the console doesn't do anything to either lock. 3. with both doors unlocked: trying to lock the car with my key in the driver's side from the door handle locks only the driver's side lock, but then it pops right back into unlocked position! 4. with both doors unlocked: trying to lock the car with my key from the passenger side door handle doesn't to anything at all. 5. with passenger side locked: trying to lock the car with my key from the driver's side locks the driver side door. in all cases, i can hear clicking noises, like it's making an attempt, but all attempts are unsuccessful. what do i do to fix???????? (some of you know i just did my bushings. could i have accidentally messed something up?) ------------------ Adam Nitti ajnitti@mindspring.com www.adamnitti.com '85 911 Carrera Coupe |

It could be the little plastic clip that holds the steel rods together. The rods go from the lock actuator to the knob/lock. You'll have to take off the passenger door panel in order to investigate. The rods should be in the uppr right hand section of the door (stiing inside looking at the door) they meet at an almost 90 degree angle, and a little plastic clip connects them.

Funny, the same thing started happening on my '85 coupe a few weeks ago. I posted a question here and got a few responses. The most plausible was that the pushrod on the passenger side is broken or detached. I have not investigated further yet, I will update you when I find the solution.

I have a similar problem with my door-locks.
Normal: With both doors unlocked, I get out lock the drivers door with the key, both doors lock. When it's cold: I get out and lock the driver's side door with the key. I start to walk away when I hear "WHUMP", and both doors are unlocked. I try to lock it again, "whump", it unlocks again. Solution: I have found the passenger side door-lock or rods seem to stick more than they should when it's cold outside. This seems to cause the passenger side to not lock, or not lock completely. My solution has been to lock the passenger door, manually, from the inside, then I can get out on the drivers side, and lock the door with the key. This seems to hold true if one of the doors are not closed all the way, then the door-locks unlock themselves. I presume this reverting to an unlock state is a feature. Have fun. Yours almost sounds like a problem with the lock itself, or the rods that control the lock on the door. Good luck. ------------------ Nick Hromyak '85 Carrera |

is there any possibility it could be the central switch? i noticed there were 2 pairs of wires coming out... i had fooled with it during bushing replacement when i removed the console...

now i can't even lock the passenger side manually. looks like i'm going to have to open 'er up, cause now i can't even lock the car. the driver's side still motions to lock state, but then pops right back into 'unlocked' because the passenger side seems to be seized now or something. any final thoughts or comments before i try to figure out what's going on? i sure hope the bentley manual sheds some light on this...
