p-car mail order in the UK?

I need to get some basic stuff for routine maintainence on the new car (air/oil filter, spark plugs etc.) and was wondering if any of the UK guys knew any good places for mail order?

I was going to go to German & Swedish in Heathrow as they carry some parts + I need some bits for my Golf, but it is a bit far. Any ideas?

Layzee, there are lots of companies in the UK who supply mail order 911 parts but you will be very hard pushed to beat German & Swedish (& French too now!)or Euro Car Parts for general service items (& an ever-increasing range of non-service parts too).
I live about 5 mins away from German & Swedish Heathrow - if by some chance they don't do mail order I would be quite happy to get the parts & post them to you if you wanted. Let me know if you ever need any non-service parts as in the course of my '69 911E restoration I buy & sell lots of new/used early 911 parts.

Andy

Andy,

Thanks for the info. I'll probably take a trip down there on Friday. It isn't that far really as I live in Harpenden, nr Luton. It all depends on the traffic as you well know

I am at Uni at the mo and need to have a good look at the car with my dad to see if there is anything major that needs doing - I'll bear your offer of parts in mind.

German and Swedish did seem to be pretty good for parts, a number of the parts cheaper than for my VW! Anything else you think I should replace straight away (bearing in mind the car has barely been touched in 8 years), apart from the filters, oil, spark plugs?

As well as the items you mentioned, it would be worth changing the brake fluid (flushing out the old fluid through each caliper until fresh fluid comes out the bleed nipples)& the transmission oil.By the way, how did the car drive on the way back from the vendors (or did you trailer it)?

Thanks andy

Yeah, we hired a Brian James trailer and took it all the way back from Northumberland. Put about 600 miles on that trailer in 24 hours!

My dad hasn't really been out in it much because of all the salt on the roads but I should get a go next weekend if the weather is okay.

A brake overhaul is definately on the cards. Can't see anything in the Haynes manual about changing the tranny oil on the 925. Is it factory sealed or what?

German & Swedish are good & on the whole resonably priced but they often hold OEM 'quality' parts not OEM so beware.
Good for service items like oil/air filters.

Euro car parts are very good, their main store is in Wembley but they are growing Nationwide. Similar deal to G&S but they only sell OEM parts. You get what you pay for, if you need any advice forget it, you can very easily come away with a bit for an earlier/later car.

Bert Gear at Berlyn services is really good Tel.07000 911 924. He is technical help to IPEC (Ind. Porsche Enthusiasts Club) hence, really knows his onions & is reasonably priced.

Roger Bray ditto.

Porscheshop are a bit dear but they have good special offers & know what they are talking about. Their mail order is very quick & their customer service excellent.

Breakers- Discount 9 Autotech in Wales (Neil). 01656 740991
Porsch-a-part (Simon) both very good.

Hope this helps, I'm only in front by a nose with Porsche ownership, enjoy.

JG

Berlynn Services is VERY good on maintenence type stuff. Bert is a very good guy with tons of Porsche knowlege. I recommend him very highly. Prompt delevery anywhere in the UK. No affiliation just please with his service and prices. I was not happy with German Swedish stuff. Sometimes is was a lil cheaper, but often some off brand and the people taking your orders are not experts by any means. I have paid too much for shipping and got stuff days too late. I have also recieve the wrong parts on occation from them. I will not deal with them anymore... but that's just me and I may have just had a bad string of service. I also like to deal with Design 911. He's got some pretty cool stuff and is fair with pricing. Aftermarket stuff is cheaper than his OEM/maintenence stuff. Berlyn's number is 07000 911 924. I forget Design's but they have a web page at www.*****************. Ask for Cal, he is the owner and the only one who will cut you deals. I have bought tons of stuff from both recommended, and found both to be good people. That is what I think is important and just wanted to pass it along.
