Clutch Issue / 915
So I have finally installed the engine / trans in my '85 Targa. I have a real issue with the amount of pedal effort. It is waaaay too much. To the point of the pedal bending before I can even feel the clutch releasing. I installed the Sachs sport clutch and T/O bearing, had the flywheel turned, etc, etc.
The cable is almost new and I rebuilt the pedal cluster as well. I'd like to point out that I'm a bmw tech by trade as well as most everything else (30yrs). This is prolly the umteenth clutch I've installed in a vehicle. I removed the engine and trans Sat, removed the starter and was able to see the clutch fork fully engaged and all looked well. I then took a 30" piece of pipe I had laying around and put it directly over the clutch arm (minus the helper arm and spring) I was able with considerable arm pressure (I'm a big guy) move the pressuse plate through the arc. The action felt normal but still required too much effort for a manly man hand all the way on the end of a 30" pipe. The trans is fresh. the input snout is smooth, the fork assy new with a slight amount of anti-seize. I re-installed it and have the same issue. I know I'm missing something because if you measure the amount of leverage at the helper arm/spring on the trans the total length from pivot to cable attachment is about 10" if you add the length from the clutch pedal cable attachment to the top of the pedal pad there might be an additional 9" So basically there is a total of @19" of leverage engineered to move that T/O bearing. If I tried to grasp that pipe at 19" I know I would not have been able to move/ release it. I know that I need to remove the assembly again, and take the clutch completely apart. Any suggestions or where someone has encountered this before ?? Wrong pressure plate? Right pressure plate but the spring action wrong?

I've never heard of this problem before...
A stiff clutch is one thing but yours sounds like it's broken. Bump for more views

I don't see this addressed in your post:
Do you have the helper spring on the bottom of the trans on and in the correct position?
