Is this part critical to CIS?
 

I have the cast AL upper and lower air box, the lower box that attaches to the intake runners does not have the mounting points for the part below. I would consider fabing mounts but the part does not fit in the lower box.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1246913021.jpg

Would I have raw fuel pooling in the lower portion if I cant use it?

that item was inside later and replacement boxes. it helped distribute the cold start injector spray down each runner in an effort to keep airbox explosions to a minimum. being that your box won't explode, you don't need it.

Thank you John W W. What are you guys using for seals between the two box's?

a side Q. do you gain anything by not having it? it looks like a big air flow restrictor.

The air box was included with a set of 40 tins and a 2.7. Someone on the board knows the history behind them. I did see one on Ebay a few months back but it was the only one I have seen outside of this forum.

Jason, I bought that box on ebay a couple mos ago and am getting ready to install it now. I left out that fuel distributor rail to the intakes, and reused my old gasket after soaking in silicone for a while to let it expand a bit. I was also considering using silicone rtv type gasket material in the groove and letting it set up a bit before I sandwiched the 2 halves together. On the 77 do you use the connection to the M22 x1.5 threaded hole in side of the lower half of the box? On my 83sc this is not used and I am having a hell of a time finding a plug that size locally.

Are you installing the unit w/ motor out of the car or using partial engine drop?

I got the car as a rolling chassis and picked up the motor with the box disassembled. I was also thinking about using silicone but have not had anything to reference. I asked the seller of your box if it used the original hardware and was told that it did. Unfortunately the 11 OEM screws I have to join the boxes are not correct. Was yours provided with hardware? if so what size screws? My engine is on a cart out of the car so it should be an easy install when I get to that point. As for the M22 x1.5 I don't know.

I was going to us a set of 40 tins, I had 6 venturi made at the local machine shop but have changed my mind. so I have just recently started working on the CIS again. Keep me posted on your progress and I will do the same.

Jason, I won't be home for a couple weeks but when I'm there next I'll check the size on those screws and take a picture--hoping to get it installed next time I'm up there but we'll see......thing is a bear to get back in w/o total engine drop.

Screw Size for Attaching Halves of Aluminum Airbox
 

Screw size for aluminum air box halves is M5 (diameter) x .8mm (pitch) x 15mm (length). Attached is a picture of screw in question. Phillip's head and self tapping I believe. (note notch in screw tip if picture isn't too fuzzy)

Thanks for the info. what type of gasket are you using? I picked up 6' x .103 from napa and made my own. I was also thinking about a sheet of cork to make one.
