Pilots out there?

In Vic Elfords performance book he refers several time about the correlation of many Porsche owners also being pilots.
I got my ticket about 15 years ago although unfortunately , for many reasons, I am not current. Liscensed but for now temporarily grounded.!!!!

How many of you are flying now or have in the past?????

Former CH-47 Helicopter PIC and IP. Had a fixed wing license, but haven't updated. Kinda lost interest when the rental charges, maintenance and fuel prices skyrocketed.

PP-ASEL as of July '99. Got my biennial coming up this year. I'm about 4 months outside of being current so I need to practice up.

I'm going to get my instrument later this year.

Just as an aside , I am looking into the Civilian Air patrol as an economical and interesting way to get back in the left seat.
Any body doing this?????

PP,Comm,CFI & ATP

I lost interest in flying when I realized boats are soooo much more fun and cheaper.

I built a BD-5, but traded it for a Citabria KCAB when Bede went belly up and couldn't provide the snowmobile engines for them. The guy turned it into a jet for airshows.
I am still in aircraft hydraulic components business though.

Plus, I never saw any of the babes hanging out at the A/P that I found when I was on the boat. The girls at the A/P tend to wear far more clothing than when they're on a boat !

ATP, CFI, 7,000+ hours, majority of time has has been flying turbine powered Aircraft . Flew Commuter airlines then went Corporate. Corporation then sold the equipment off, and the day sold, March 13, 1996 was also the last day I flew.

Started flying in 1966, became the Executive Editor of Flying Magazine and never looked back. SMEL, SES, instrument, glider, commercial, CE500 type rating, got about 130 types logged from a Stearman to a C-5A...built a Falco 10 years ago, flew it until I figured I was getting behind the power curve and quit forever. So now I'm building a twin-plug, 3.4-liter, carbureted 911SC Coupe in the very same Hudson Valley barn that the Falco once occupied, with the inestimable advice and consent of Steve Weiner (Rennsport Systems, in Portland, Oregon), an occasional contributor to this forum. Who, indeed, is also a pilot of considerable experience and adventures.

Must be something about fast machines. I spent 6 years in the Navy and now fly for Delta. If anyone is going to or from Buffalo tomorrow on a 727 look me up.

Was partner in a 1-26 glider which I had a lot of solo hours in. Had some hours in a 182. My brother has a 1999 Carrera 4 and has a turbo Saratoga (for sale) and just purchased a Malibu. So I guess it is true but lets go a little further. I've had 14 motorcycles, many MGBs, love scuba, trap shooting, back packing, tennis, macro photography and anything with radio control. I am certain that the love of life extends for most past a Porsche.

You could probably add skiing, sailing, cycling etc for everybody in this group. There seems to be a correlation between fast and challenging for those of us blessed with the "thrill gene".

I happened to work with a lot of pilot
types (Jeppesen-Sanderson). Several of
my co-worker-pilots are motorheads too.
Recently, I took ground school, but had to
make a decision on either rebuilding my
engine or flight lessons this winter.
I chose the engine. Hope to fly someday. In the interim, I will just consider myself
a Porsche pilot. Any of you pilots use
our charts?

Bill

Well! Looks like a good match - ASEL, was working on Instrument rating BC (before children), had some modest sail plane time. Completely out of currency, we just fly the 911 now.

AH-64 Apache helicopter pilot, MTP, with ratings in the AH-1 Cobra (many simularities to the 911 in the areas of old but reliable), UH-1 Huey, OH-58 Kiowa, and commercial instrument helicopter and single engine fixed wing.

Flying for 12 years. Not as much now as several years ago, but everyone is trying STRETCH dollars!! Flying is only half the thrill, launching $50,000 hellfire missles, 2.75 FFAR (rockets), 30mm gun rounds and watching things change shape rapidly is cool too!

Farily new to the 911, but what an experience--still trying to get past the no heat/defroster idea though!

Also a previous boat owner. Enjoyed that greatly, just no where to launch one close by right now!

Private Pilot - SEL. 1991. Got married shortly thereafter and my wife has a real fear of flying...Specifically with me at the controls, so I am not current anymore. She doe not, however, have any problem with the 4 911's I have now owned so maybe it was a good trade-off. I still get 'the eye' when I say I am going to 'step into the garage for just a minute' though!
