What are these "911" stripes on the hood?
I've been poking around the 'net to determine when (and why!) Porsche put the thick stripes and "911" on the hood of the car. Can anyone tell me if this was a factory option or ? on the Carrera?
Car in question I looked at VERY briefly on the way home yesterday. Orange, "Carrera" script on sides, large, black stripes on hood with "911" on frontmost section. Whaleish tail, US-spec orange lights front bumper. Was told it was a Euro version with a 2.7, but thought that the non-turbo'd 3.0 went in to this pre-SC model? (good site for information is http://members.tripod.com/~msherman/text/911.faq). Sorry to bother you on this one, but was very curious about the car. I will stop by the location again and try now to get VINs and whatnot. Just LOVE the orange color! When I first went looking for a sports car so many years ago, there was an orange Porsche I took around the block prior to buying a '69 chrome bumper MGB. Since that time, I have always fallen first for the orange-colored Porsches, then all the others. Regret is a terrible thing to endure... Jw |

Jw,
It was shown in the '74 brochure in a picture, just of the hood, right above the inflator for the collapsible spare, as 'Front lid with safety striping black, gold, orange, green.' Since it was clearly designed only for the 'shorty' hood, I guess your answer is '74 model. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

The orange you are refeering to is probably "Continental Orange" or "Gulf Orange". I painted a convert. bug that color back in my college days. What a beautiful orange!!
