any mtbikers or roadies here???

just got back from a 20 mile ride at briones here in the east bay area. gotta love this weather. sometimes it's tough to chose between tinkering/riding the bike or tinkering/driving the p car. anyways, i was just curious.

Funny you should mention riding, not much time for it lately and it is 9 degrees here. But I have a couple of bikes. I prefer road as to dirt. All I do right now is tinker with the p-car. Nice to see someone with the time and weather to get a good ride in.

Bob, I live in the bay area, also. I ride both, my mountain bike is a Litespeed Titanium F/S bike and I have a Cannondale road bike. Not riding right now as I am recouperating from sugery for a torn rotator cuff. (I tangled with a car on my road bike) his fault but I am the one paying Maybe we can ride sometime....

Bob,

I ride both road and mtn.

I raced on the road for 6 years, and was a member of the US Junior National Road Team back in 1992. Haven't done too much road riding in the past few years (kind of got burnt out on it), but get out on the Mtn bike quite often. Colorado has great terrain for both road and mtn.

Lets see...my garage:

Clark-Kent custom made Titanium frame with full Dura-Ace (got this one free the last year I raced: 1993.)

Trek 990 mtn bike frame with full XTR, grip-shift, Ti seatpost and stem, Mavic rims/hubs

Old Trek 1000 converted into a TT road bike with 24" front wheel, Mavic bullhorn bars, All Ultegra, double Campy disks (looks cool as hell). I ride this one to work.

Anyhow, if youre ever in CO and want to ride, drop me an e-mail.

Nick.

I ride a Bontrager Privateer on dirt, unless the girlfriend wants to ride, then we're on the street.
Lots of good areas here in New England, expect when the ground is frozen.

Hey magilla, Ever use the Minuteman Trail from Cambridge to Lowell. That's the only place I can get my wife to ride. I prefer Great Brook farm in Carlisle; I like the dirt.

We live 2 blocks from the start of the MM in Somerville! We have ridden it several times. It's a great ride- I always find some mud or dirt on the sides to keep me interested. I've never heard of Great Brook. I usually ride the Fells.

Small world.
Not much mountain biking here in FL, although I try to make a trip a year out to utah.
Great roads here though- good riding- about 60 degrees now.
In the garage- road bike is a dura ace equipped Kestrel, mountain bike is a hard tailed Litespeed.
Can't own the best car in the world (my 85 carrera might disagree), but can own some of the best bikes
Ride more, work less. I would rather work on the porsche than work on the bikes, but would rather ride the bikes than ride the porsche- except maybe on the track.

I ride mostly Road but love the trails on a Mountain bike. Both have been curtailed , not stopped, since the birth of my daughter four years ago. But I did get back on the road last autumn and can't wait for spring.

Merckx Steel Century W/ 9 speed Dura Ace
Fuji hardtail MTB (great bike ) w/XT
Trek w/ Ultegra and Blackburn rack and Kids seat
Diamondback w/ old Shimano
Tricycle and purchased today a purple bike with 16" wheels for my little girl
The wife has a Schwinn Crosscut

We live next to the Capital Crescent trail in Maryland which opens to hundreds of miles of trails.

Boy do we need a bigger garage or what?

wow, i thought this thread was going to be ignored as it is not p related. can you believe i can actually get my mtn bike in the back of my p car. of course the wheels have to be removed but they get to ride shotgun.

the weather was so nice today i had to get out to the hills.i use to ride my bike everywhere in seattle while attending college often carrying tool boxes filled w supplies or bags of groceries. i had no car at the time. poor art student.

s77911, sounds like you can start your own bike rental co. that's quite a stable.

n11porsche, i live in pleasant hill to be exact. my territory covers mt diablo, briones, black diamond minds, shell ridge, etc. i also have to do my once a year ride across the golden gate bridge. sorry to hear about your meeting but yeah...whenever you're ready tilton101@home.com...i'm there.

nickshu, i'm jealous of your 990 and your riding territory. does the ti seatpost and stem take the sting out of terrain? 990 is steel right? the four digits models are aluminum for trek, right?

if anyone wants to ride here in the e bay, drop me an email. weather and work permitting i try and get out a few times a week.

I used to ride a whole lot more but haven't done much in the past two years...too much work and energy elsewhere. My roots are in the road but mountain biking around Flagstaff is hard to beat. Two Yetis...an Ultimate and an A.R.C, the road bike is a Masi (USA). Pete

Used to be pretty involved in mountain biking but have eased off it recently (time is just not there). I've got a Proflex 856 with XTR upgrades. Super light bike but it just doesn't get the love it deserves from me. Ah well, the p-car gets all the love now.

Bob,

The 990 is a steel frame. The Ti seatpost and stem smooth it out some, but I guess that may be mostly attributed to my Manitou shock. Anyhow...

Im impressed to see all the posts on this!

Nick.

Roadie here! Raced the past 8 or 9 years, most recently with the Target/ICE team out of Philly. Mostly given it up though for now, no time. Merlin titanium with campy ergo, spinergy wheels. I think most of the roadies would agree that nothing as a balls to the wall exciting as a high speed criterium, no air bags, no roll bars, no five point only that layer of spandex between you and the pav'e! I, too, am a road junky. I have an early Colnago, a 1972 Schwinn Paramount, and an old Masi. If only I was strong enough to move the cranks!!! LOL. As I get older I find I need less and less gears, but flatter areas to ride on. All of my rides are 13-19, 44/54 and I could lighten each one by eliminating the 54 and everything but the 19.

Happy Trails.

Marc
