Post Clutch Problem: Symtoms and Diagnosis

Well...I have undertaked the largest DIY project yet...replacing the clutch...

I am just writing this post for future searchers with clutch problems.

Well my symtoms started with the clutch not disengaging completely so I could not get the car into gear.
Only by pressing really hard on the pedal could I barley get the car to shift gears.
The problem got progressivly worse until no clutch.

Well I have taken apart the car and it was a broken release fork. I think what started out as a crack became a full blown brake...well it did not brake off but the lower arm is broken half way through. thus the progessive worsening.

Also this caused the Throw out bearing to get shredded. The tell tale sign is a HIGH pitched shrilling when the clutch pedal is pushed in.

And for you newbies...I tackled the clutch project, and thus far it is very doable. I have taken the engine and the tranny, taken off the clutch, and now the only hurdle is putting it back in...which I feel confident about.

Way to go. I had a broken clutch earlier this year which I did myself. I felt really good about fixing it myself and I hope you feel the same. It's quite something when you get that motor on the floor isn't it? It's a beautiful thing.
