What do you guys use to remove the glue residue from balancing weights on anodized rims???

Good question, because I removed the weights when polishing my Fuchs and found two conditions: the glue came off using anything from olive oil to paint stripper, and there were two weights that left a permanent discolorization on the alloy. Nothing I did, including sanding, seemed to change the lighter-than-the-other-area condition.
Perfect square of discolor under the weight. No way to buff/sand it to match the rest. Must be a reaction between the metals? In all events, you can go as harsh as any thinner agent and (keeping it away from rubber) take the glue off in an instant. Jw |

Goof Off usually works well.
Also I am sure carb cleaner would do the trick. This is for the inside of the rim not the outside where the chemicals may hurt the finish. ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Region |

I've used WD40 to remove most glues and adhesives, though I haven't tried to remove the wheel weights yet.

3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover works great on all sorts of sticky stuff. For the wheel weight goo, just let it soak in a little and scrape right off. Works great on tar, wax, weatherstrip adhesive, etc. Safe on the paint finish if you don't get too crazy and rub likea madman.
