Replace Becker CDR23 with Grand Prix? 1 DIN slot?

I read in some posts that it might be possible to replace the CDR23 (with Bose) in my 2003 C4 with a Grand Prix (so I can get Aux input for my iPod). I wrote Becker in Germany and got this response, which I can't make sense of. Can anyone help?

If the components in your car are connected over CAN bus,
the installation is a little bit difficult because lines must be set for lights, ignition and speedimpulse. Existing components such as sound system, remote via steering wheel, CD changer, free speech mechanism can not longer be used because they are attached by optical digital cable.

So they said that the Grand Prix doesn't have a fiber optic output and so if you have the Bose system you're (I'm) out of luck.
