Another off topic thread...beverage of choice? Wine?
Hope we get all these off topic threads out of the way soon, but since this is the recent trend here goes: What beverage do most Porsche enthusiasts here on the board enjoy? If it is wine, what vareital, if beer, is it import, light or dark, for spirits, Scotch (single malts, vodka etc. Just curious.
My favorites...Wine, Cabernets,Pinots, Syrah or big Merlots, Beer...Guiness Stout....none to excess, never behind the wheel... ------------------ Shakenbake (Chris Baker) 1974 911 Coupe '91 "A" stock champion WV '90 SCCA FTD '99 SCCA 3x "A" stock winner |

Merlot's. Charles Krug 1998 if you can still find them. 14.1% alcohol so lots of legs and smooth finish. Cabernet's with food. A bit to dry on its own. Beer, alternate between Budweiser and MGD. Bottles of course.

When I am in the garage it is Miller time. Miller Lite in longnecks of course. This accounts for 90% of my sin juice.
An afterwork Jim Lehrer Newshour or evening on the deck calls for a good German Reisling, preferably Trocken style Reisling because it is good on its own or nice with fruit and cheese. Cali Reislings are a joke. With dinner a smooth Cabernet or Merlot is nice. I always end up with the relatively cheap stuff because I cannot tell the difference. Wine only occasionally, cabernet or chardonnay.
Beer: Guiness, Heineken, Steinlager, Becks, Full Sail Golden. High Octane: Scotch, almost any kind, but particularly the single-malts. A good margarita (rocks, not blended) can be very refreshing. Question I've always had: How on earth do people operate a motorcycle after consuming alcohol? These devices are not steered with the handle bars, as many of you know. You steer them with your butt. ------------------ '83 SC |

When in the garage I drink beer, any kind will do but prefer Henry's.
Wine before, during and after meals. I like the Syrah's even though they seem to be the latest trend. Always have had a soft spot for a full bodied cab as well. I'm with Superman in his choice of single malt Scotch, and as far as Margarita's go I like them on the rocks with a splash of Amerreto or Grand Marnier floated on the top. When I was in college (Pullman,WA) I road my GPZ750 on many occassions when I had no balance or business riding. Explains why my wife will not let me have a bike today. I do all my drinking at home now, cheaper and safer. |

I love drinking alcohol. I have many preferences.
Wine: Reds. All of 'em except Syrahs. I prefer cabs for the most part. Beer: Guinness if it's cold out. Newcastle if it's warm. Corona with a lime when it's way hot, and Shiner Bock if I'm in Texas. Hard liquor: I love single malt scotches, namely Glenlivet. I drink a lot of Makers' Mark bourbon (what is this Jack Daniels crap?), and Stolichnaya vodka. I drink Manhattans, vodka Martinis, and a few other little concoctions. Coke, not Pepsi. Coffee by day, tea by night. Anybody smoke cigars? That's my last tobacco vice since I quit smoking Marlboros a few years back. I prefer a good Fuente or Cohiba (if you can get 'em). Cubans? Been there, done that, wasn't impressed. I like German autos as well. ![]() ------------------ Mark Szabo 1986 911 Targa 3.2 1987 Escort 5-speed 1.9 The Porsche Owners Gallery |

South Australian Reds - Shiraz or Grenache.
The Spicier the better. I also drink shed loads of beer, not fussy but Stella Artois mainly. And if they are done right a Manhatten goes down well too. Oh, and Guiness for medicinal purposes. ![]() Alex ------------------ 911 2.7S Targa email:alex@cascade.f9.co.uk |

Alex - the trick is to use *dry* vermouth, and add a teaspoon of cherry juice when you get the cherries. Also a dash of bitters is *required* for a proper Manhattan.
I can also provide some better recipes for a Martini... ![]() ------------------ Mark Szabo 1986 911 Targa 3.2 1987 Escort 5-speed 1.9 The Porsche Owners Gallery |

After a long week, on Friday evening, I prefer one of the multi-layered cocktails:

Talk about "off topic"....but how can I resist?
I like to pour meself a couple of fingers of Makers Mark in a favorite glass (straight up, thank you very much), and then retreat to my music room. I put on John Coltrane's "Love Supreme" and feel the room float away...... Regards, Doug (not too many vices) '81 SC |

You know guys, there are several 12 step programs you all ought to look into. But the first step is admitting you have a problem.
Ok, as for me? I like Absynth. Absynth makes the heart grow fonder. (of solvents) ![]() ------------------ Tyson Schmidt 72 911 Cabriolet |
