Mystery Sound-O-the Day
Guess me this one...
Only when the engine is running, there is a motor noise type of whine from under the dash. When I mess with the blower fan control lever knob, the pitch changes. but there doesn't seem to be any fan blower switch position to make the noise quit altogether. When the key is on, but engine not running = no noise. With engine on, at any fan switch position = irritating noise. Any ideas?

Badgers maybe?
Sorry. "Under the dash" is a big area. I know for a fact the car has no less than 126 blower motors under the dashboard alone. Ok I exaggerate, but, my point is with so much HVAC stuff going on in the 911's "under the dash" unfortunately isn't that specific. Can you hear it in the front trunk also? Isolate it a little better under the dash?

ok, you're sort-of right I guess....
I'll poke around tomorrow and see if I can get closer to a specific location.

It's just that I hate to be wrong. I'd hate to guess one of the blower motors and it turns out to be badgers

Maybe a fuel pump? it is kind of under the dash but sounds like it is right there. Have you listened for it out of the car? Specifically under the pedal cluster.

Take out the fuse (or relay) that control the blower. If the sound quits then it's the blower. If it doesn't....then it must be badgers.
Could be the AC too? Doubt it's the fuel pump.

Does the Coupe have the underdash heat sensor? or is that only the Targa. The heat sensor has a small motor on it that sucks air theough a small vent to sample. This is then fed back to the auto heating system..... do you have the auto heating?
All of that is lilely usless to to if you have manual heating controls...! |

No AC, so it's not that.
I'll go under there and see if I can locate a more specific location later today.

It sounds like your fresh air ventilation blower is the problem. If you don't have A/C, that's the only blower you have up there.
Now the real question is why is it acting like that.... JR |

Maybe grab some pepper spray if you have some around too, badgers are seriously aggressive if they're cornered somewhere... like under a dashboard.
My vote is for the fresh air blower, seems like a lot of folks having that same problem here lately. My fuel pump sure is loud, but if it is indeed a high pitched whine it's bound to be the blower.

I knew if this thread lasted very long, sooner or later that would show up.
Given the sound he was describing, I'm thinking it might be a snake, not a badger. JR |

You think the varmint got him? He's probably in an emergency ward somewhere. Some bactine, gauze and a rabies shot and he'll be as good as new.
