Kirky 17" in early 911

Anybody mount a 17" Kirkey road race (either intermediate or high dollar) seat in an early 911? Found the seat to be REALLY comfy (actually the 18" was like an easy chair but the sales guy pointed out that a little bending here and there would be fine) and after sitting in quite a few different Sparco seats as well as a Pole Position (big thanks to Greg in Va for letting me test sit) I think Kirky is the answer.

So after measuring between the 'bumps' in my '70 it LOOKS like i should be able to fit a 17" Kirky nice and low. The intermediate is made for bottom mount (or rather has no side mount provisions) and the deluxe has more bracing and a side mount setup. I would think a very short side mount might give me easy removal and use of sliders but hard to say without buying shop time.

The issue with sliders is a) instructors and b) Kirky road race seats have a LOT more side bracing than most glass buckets and i think i'm gonna need all the help i can get to climb in and out.

Really can't believe just how comfortable a padded trash can can be but nothing else i sat in compares.

I JUST got done mounting a Kirkey 17" intermediate in my 914 race car. I agree about the comfort, mine feels perfect.

I too searched and sat in quite a few seats trying to find the "right one", and the 17" Kirkey Intermediate by Far felt the best.

My seat mounted to a rack that bolted to the floor, with vertical tabs, so the seat bolts go through the sides.

If trying to mount to adjustable floor sliders, I would worry about the seat tweaking and twisting under driving loads. Mine is hard mounted with another mounting point behind the headrest, and it is ROCK solid.

I'm sure there's ample room in the floor area, 911's are more roomy than 914's I think.

I had a 14" (? small) Kirkey Deluxe in my '73 and it worked fine.

I had to bend the headrest end WAY back to clear my helmet, and I cut off the elbow crunchers a bit and welded them up.

I put in a Recaro Pro Racer HANS so the Kirkey is available if anyone with a 32" waist wants one cheap.

Aluminum angle bolts to factory seat mounts and the sides of the Kirkey.

I have an 18" driver and a 17" passenger. They fit perfectly and are very comfortable. For the money, they are a steal.

Sorry, no pics, as I no longer have the car, but I had 18" & 17" in a '77. I think we used these brackets:

Ed what covers are those? My only gripe on the Kirkey seats is the really cheapy looking covers on the intermediate seats. Wonder if it'd be feasible to have someone sew up a cover in alcantara w/o the big red logo?

There are dimensions on Kirkey website, but I would suggest trying a seat before you buy.

St the 17" should be quite roomy for you.

I think a Recaro Pole Position is almost 17". I find them snug but doable.

Pole Position was too tight at my current weight. 17" kirkey was snug but doable and probably better than that with some bending.

Above is pictures of my two 17"Kirkey Deluxe Road Race seats in my '73. They are mounted on fabricated mounts to lower them in the car. (I'm 6'6" tall). Currently they are not mounted in the car or i could get you better pictures of the assembly. I am painting the cage and in process of re-assembling the interior.
Hope this helps,
Eric
