driving my 911E
Came home on Thursday from University to play with my new 911. I didn't really get much of a go, only on our driveway but even that gave me a taste for more.
When my dad and I went out in it, it was suprisingly good given its years of neglect. A slight misfire could be heard under hard acceleration, but that could just be the plugs. It still seemed very quick and rode quite well, the brakes are dire and need a complete overhaul. When we had got it warm , we took it back home and changed the oil + filter. That old stuff was seriously black.I think the sportomatic system works really well. No snatchiness in the geartrain and easy to drive. This has given me some serious desire to shell out the £1500 for insurance and get it out myself. Anyway, I took a lot of photos and have uploaded them to webshots for your viewing pleasure ![]() PGC695K: my '72 911E ------------------ '72 911E Sporto |

A tidy looking car, layzee. Spring for the insurance and enjoy it!!
Speaking of enjoyment, the weather here on the Pacific North-Wet Coast was almost balmy today. The weatherman had predicted snow/rain showers, but alas, the (hazy) sun was out for most of the day. As the roads were dry and salt free, I fired up the SC and went for a very nice, long drive all over town; the first drive of any length since I completed some upgrades and general maintainence jobs. Thanks in large part to the help from friends I have made on this BBS, my car is running *very* well indeed. I had a ear to ear grin on my face all day long. I waited a long time to get the SC. Now I know it was worth it. Regards, Doug '81 SC |

Thanks Saffs, I had seen those pictures before. That car looks good and very much like mine except for the 'cookie-cutters'. I am fortunate enough to have a set of 5 good condition Fuchs which I am gonna get round to detailing when I am at home next.
As I have mentioned before, I think all the speakers in the car are original but I am not sure. I know the Philips FM Stereo Cassette is orignal from '72 because I have the invoice and the manual! The car has the standard central speaker, speakers in each door bin, two satellite speakers in the back - all look like they were meant to be there: At the moment only central speaker works and the electric aerial is dead. Gonna take a look at that today. Phil |

Very Nice. Looks well worth the effort it took to find it. Not driving it though would make me insane!!
